I really think it can kick-start our season

|

Sebastian Coates was at fault for Stoke’s goal, but he will learn from this experience and come back stronger. Andy Carroll failed to find the net, but was at least getting into good positions to make the goalscoring opportunities possible, and Craig Bellamy showed his ability to have an impact by almost scoring moments after coming off the bench.

The game also demonstrated just how determined the Liverpool players are to end the wait for silverware. Although some squad players were used, it was still a strong side put out by Dalglish, which fought to the very end against an almost full strength Stoke side and fully deserved to progress to the quarter-finals.

It may seem like this was just another game, but victory at the Britannia could be a turning point in the season for Liverpool. The belief that will come from this win could have a great impact on the team, and help them push forward for a Champions League return and their first trophy since 2006.

I am currently studying Sports Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire. I have recently finished my first year of the course, and I am hoping to hone my skills by writing pieces for live4liverpool.

I have supported Liverpool since the age of 6, and in that time my favourite player has been Robbie Fowler. My favourite match was the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan.
