The Not So Good Foreign Influx Into Liverpool FC

|

4. Istvan Kozma – Pushing back the years now and a signing form the early nineties. Istvan Kozma was somewhat of a surprise signing in February 1992 when Graeme Souness bought the Hungarian international from Scottish side Dunfermline Athletic for the sum of £300,000, which wasnt exactly a small sum at the time. However, as so often was the case for many of Souness’ signings, Kozma looked massively out his depth. After only 6 appearances over the course of two seasons he was released and headed back to his homeland with Ujpest before moving on to Cyprus as well (Graveyard for Liverpool failures ?), captaining APOEL to a domestic double.

5. Harry Kewell – Now what is an article without being a little bit controversial. Harry Kewell arrived at Anfield in 2003 under Gerard Houllier. At the time he was one of the most sought after players on the planet after his skilfill performances for an excellent Leeds United side. He garnered praise for his ability, tricks and pace on the wings and the arrival was seen as a great move for both parties. However upon arrival Kewell was forever dogged with injuries and was controversally played in the 2005 Champions League Final before leaving the field injured. Many fans believed that Kewell’s heart was not in the Liverpool cause and many were upset with the way he had conducted himself. Kewell is a prime example of a player whos potential was never realised at Liverpool. He was given all the chances in the world to return each time from injury but time and time again he just did not seem able to progress back to his old self. In the end Kewell was shipped out to Turkish giants Galatasaray alongside fellow former red Milan Baros, however as of the start of this A-League season Kewell will be playing in the colours of Melbourne Victory, making his debut last week against Brett Emerton’s Sydney United in front of 40,000.
