The players are moving forward, Dalglish not so much

|

Yet for some reason, Dalglish seems to favour a northerner over others. Henderson needs to train harder and develop a better understanding with Glen Johnson and the centre midfielders. Bellamy, on the other hand, has vast experience as well as an old spark of the understanding he’d developed in his previous one year stint at Anfield, playing with Dirk Kuyt in particular.

His link-up play with Suarez last week against Chelsea that led to Rodriguez’s goal, was a perfect example of the things Liverpool can achieve down the right with the Welshman and Kuyt combining to support Luis Suarez.

Having said that, whoever Dalglish wants to play, it is his decision. None of the starters are bad players and they certainly gave Manchester City a run for their money, frustrating the league leaders who’ve been used to scoring 3-4 goals a game and knocked 6 past arch rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The substitution policy of Dalglish however, leaves way too much to be desired. Bringing Andy Carroll on for the last seven minutes – might as well have waited till after the final whistle to give him some practice. The header Carroll threw down Joe Hart’s throat could have been the first of many more if he’d had about 25 minutes on the pitch.

He was also the only substitute in the entire game mind. Dalglish was allowed three in case that slipped anyone’s attention. While Liverpool pressed on, it seemed perfect sense to re-invigorate the side with at least Maxi Rodriguez. He is good on the ball,  quick and has an  intelligent first touch. His passes are fairly accurate as well.

But Dalglish seems perfectly happy to settle for a draw. There’s some kind of arrogance in him which is going to prove detrimental to Liverpool’s development. Even against Manchester United, Alex Ferguson clearly changed the game with his substitution yet King Kenny refused to react and alter things even after Hernandez had cancelled out Gerrard’s opener.

This has been the difference between Liverpool and teams like Chelsea and Manchester United, now even Manchester City. They go for the kill when the momentum’s on their side. Liverpool unfortunately have a knack for not doing so from the management end. The players try, but the ones who might be able to make the difference, remain warming the bench.

The idea to play Andy Carroll behind Luis Suarez was priceless, why not utilise it more often? Why not let Suarez and Kuyt interchange their attacks from either the flanks, or the front? Jordan Henderson has too much faith put on him by Dalglish. The same faith, that declared Raul Meireles surplus to requirements in the summer.

Henderson should be the one coming on for Kuyt or Bellamy or Rodriguez, 10-15 minutes from time to get a run around and develop his game even more instead of it being the other way around.

Mind you the key phrase here is ’10-15 minutes’ not seven.

  • Nick says:

Maxi didn’t play against city because he’s not quick enough downing was the right player to use.

    • teesomethang says:

thanks mate for a good article.keeny is being retrogressive.he favours downing ahead of maxi.stew is wasteful, doesnt score.maxi has a soccer brain and scores.stew only runs.pliz kenny we may even fail to make top 4 with your arrogance.u think becoz u are a legend then u are infalible.wake upand buy montolivo, soldado, lucas in january, samba too

    • TRUTH says:

Biggest load of sh*te i’ve ever read!! Actually I didn’t waste time going beyond half way it was so crap.

  • gaurav says:

reading this article was an absolute waste of time..liverpool hasd great momentum going into the last 15 minutes against city.. changing the player combination would have only done more harm than good..city lacked the pace.. so they had to take nasri off… and y should dalglish try to copy chelsea and man united.. they cant manage to win against u.. chelsea have been beaten 3 times consecutively.. thanks to dalglish policy and team tactics.. stop printing stupid suggestions which are not even logical… carrol was given 90 minutes against chelsea in carling cup.. so ur suggestion of 15 minutes is laughable…

  • gaurav says:

the management of liverpool is leaps and bounds ahead of what it was last year.. so ur statement is really hilarious.. we have done great business this term.. no champions league but still managed to attract quality players.. our style of play is very attractive.. much better than chelsea and man u.. we score goals.. create chances.. and at the same time we dont concede like the other teams.. the best defence record among premier league teams.. check ur stats.. be gratefull to dalglish and the management.. and please write some quality suggestions next time… in king we trust… ynwa

Why do we have such negative posts like this when in the last three games we have picked up 2 wins and a draw against two of the top clubs in the country if not Europe. Two of those being away at stamford bridge?

If it wasn’t but for great goal keeping by Hart, would have won 3. We would have deserved it as well.

Take your negativity back to Old Toilet you closet Manc!

    • teesomethang says:

steve p,u say we got 2 wins and a draw againts big teams.yes we know that.but we should have won the city game.i dont celebrate the draw becoz if dalglish had put in maxi ahead of stew,we could have won it as stew wasted 3 glorious chances which maxi could have converted.maxi is steady and places the ball inteligently whereas stew goes for power thereby shooting off target.we drew with swansea, norwich, sunderland and their keepers won man of the match awards meaning we were attacking.but these are the matches which cost us the title and even the top 4.we dont finish off teams and u know why? kenny gets it wrong tactically sometimes.we drew all those games becoz kenny was sticking with carol and he misfired.he has started to bench him now but we still have one more problem, stew who plays ahead of maxi.the sooner kenny rectifies this then we will win games.if he doesnt, then we wont even make top 4.people will start to regret all the dropped points at home.

  • Mackey Scouse says:

You were clearly not at the game. Give it up, armchair boy. Henderson might not be quite ready yet, but you clearly have missed the point with him and Carroll. They’re developing, they may be expensive but they’re an investment in the future. You only have to watch Henderson in an under21 shirt to see what he’s about. Stop writing posts to create a headline that does not exist. Clearly the Gaffer’s investment policy in young British talent demonstrates his progressive approach. We’re moving forward together and you can stay at home on the couch.

There are some truth in your writing.

Sorry for all the insults by overzealous worshippers of KK. He is no God so he can, will and has made mistakes.

  • Harvey says:

It’s one thing to be loyal and another to be blind. I think he has some relevant points….let’s sometimes think for a change.

  • Ralph says:

When did LFC began to see positive changes? Simple! After Kenny realized the need to start playing the right persons; Bellamy, Kuyt and Maxi, leaving Carrol in the arm chair. Honestly, I have no doubts that our new signings will come good; however, playing them ahead of those who have established their own isn’t going to work for LFC. Let every player ‘own’ his place amid stiff competition.

Tell me, what manager would bench a player with two hat-trick for another unproven lad? I love everything connected to LFC. But constructive criticism is well needed for progress. IMO, I believe Kenny is trying to justify his signings.

    I am done talking.

  • We must be more precise due of some misdirects or misapplication of not scoring more goals that’s ending with draws it’s not because of Dalglish decision term of selecting against the league leader it’s the squad who take decision on the pitch Dalglish is only a Mentor like a teacher not sitting with you during your exams the squad must be more accuracy not to accumulate

  • teesomethang says:

there are some fellaz who just hero worship kk.see no evil hear no evil, talk no evil.this kills the team.we need to be objective.we all love kk,but he is not infalible.he mustnt be arrogant like wat rafa was doing.if stew isnt playing well, bench him and we will win games.i tell u if he doesnt wake up in january and buys good players like montolivo,drenthe,soldado/damiao/llorento and samba we wont even make top 4 and i guess those who worship kk will still say there is improvement in the team simply becoz its kenny involved.

  • anfield rd dreamer says:

First of all Bellamy was going to start until one of his best mates past away which was why Henderson played in the centre which might explain why he didn’t do much down the right. Maxi is 30, not many 30 year olds can play 2 games in 3 days an kenny decided to try and win them both and nearly did. Compared to some other managers performance at weekend and mid week i think he did awesome! Considering we’ve played well enough for maximum points in every game except spurs and could be sitting on an extra 3 to 7 points if hadnt been for bad decisions by officials I think kenny is doing well gelling a new team together most of which have 5-10 years with us ahead of them. With all that in mind can I ask who you think you are questioning one of the most successful managers currently working in England? When you’ve got a dangerous top side like city on the ropes dominating them and peppering them the last thing you want to do is sacrifice your midfield or defence and go for it that’s a quick fire way of letting them score on the counter. Any other day at least one of those shots would have beat hart!

  • Guy welldone for this article….if not for dalglish arogance, we should have been 2nd in the league table now…..he prefered his flops than the playr Benitez left
