They should go into the match full of confidence

|

Liverpool secured a huge result when they won 2-1 away to Chelsea last Sunday. Glen Johnson’s late winner at Stamford Bridge moved the Reds to within three points of a Champions League place, and is likely to provide a much-needed morale boost after disappointing recent results at home.

Next up for Kenny Daglish and his side is the visit of league leaders Manchester City to Anfield this coming Sunday. Roberto Mancini’s side have been near faultless in the Premier League so far this season, winning 11 of their first 12 games and scoring on average a whopping 3.5 goals per game.

With that impressive form in mind, and given the fact that Liverpool have won just twice at Anfield so far this season, it is fair to say that City will go into the game as slight favourites. But anyone writing the home side off will do so at their peril, as has been seen plenty of times before in the big games under Dalglish.

He also oversaw a 3-0 hammering of Sunday’s opponents back in April, despite fielding a patched-up side due to injuries.

Liverpool’s biggest home game so far this season was against Manchester United, who also arrived during a fine run of form, and had at that time also won all but one of their league matches. On that day, the Reds were unlucky not to secure victory after creating far more goalscoring opportunities, and showed they are still very much capable of hurting the top sides.

I am currently studying Sports Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire. I have recently finished my first year of the course, and I am hoping to hone my skills by writing pieces for live4liverpool.

I have supported Liverpool since the age of 6, and in that time my favourite player has been Robbie Fowler. My favourite match was the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan.
