Doesn’t Andy just remind you of another once maligned figure?

I am narked. I am the type of Liverpool Fan that will try and read each and every single news article, website or blog that features my team. And I have come across many from a ‘so-called’ Liverpool fan calling for King Kenny to get rid of Big Andy Carroll. One in particular made my Red blood boil with the heading, “When will Kenny dispose of the 35 million pound flop.”

I responded by informing the writer about some good colleges in his area that offer courses in Accounting and Business. He should leave sports and Liverpool commentary to Liverpool fans who know what they are talking about. Perhaps I was harsh, but I am annoyed by these ‘fans’ who have not learnt from the past.

Five years ago, Rafa Benitez signed a little known Brazilian midfielder. He was a blonde, long haired scrawny player who looked like a 14 year old boy in need of a good meal. He was useless. He could not run, he could not tackle, he could not pass. The only thing he could do was get my blood pressure up screaming at my television set. And I was not the only one. I am not exaggerating when I say every Liverpool fan I am in contact with wanted to see the back of Lucas Leiva.

Two years later, every one of us is left with a taste of foot in our mouths. Lucas has morphed into being one of our best players and an important part of our team. He was and deservedly so our player of the season last year and made more tackles than any player in the top four European Leagues. A player so important to Liverpool fans that when he went down injured against Chelsea on Tuesday night, I swear I heard a universal gasp from Liverpool supporters. If Lucas can turn his fortunes around, then why can’t Andy Carroll?

Inspite of the recent improvements, Lucas is still not up to the maerk as a Liverpool player.

    • Kev says:

You obviously haven’t got a clue what you are going on about!!!! He works so hard for the team!! Just cos he hasn’t got the Brazilian samba skills that others might have!!! He will be sorely missed by this team and also by Adam!! Lucas lets Adam play his game and create!! Step up jay spearing!!

    • Frank says:

I am not sure you are talking football because only the hacks who hate LFC and Rafa, and some deluded so called fans who have appeared out of nowhere and spend all their time regurgitating what the hacks and pundits spew out!!

Lucas is one of the very best holding midfielders in Europe, but het what do I know, or for that matter what lies all these stats say!!!!

    • shibashis says:

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !
Sorry, am at a loss of words at your comment, and those are the only ones I could muster !
      Sincere apologies 🙁

    @Ashfah Hussain

Obviously watching some other matches mate, perhaps you should look at some stats which back up Lucas then re-make your ill-thought out comment?

Lucas was one of our best if not the best Liverpool player this season, at least on par with Suarez and Pepe. He made us tick and was a huge reason why we have so many away wins this season. Will be sorely missed.

According to your logic though, if Lucas isn’t good enough for Liverpool’s standards, then no one is I guess…

Let’s just see how LFC go without him??. I for one don’t have ‘a different taste in my mouth’.He still needs to prove himself! He has ‘no shot’ at all.My 3yr old grandson can kick a ball harder than him! And as far as his injury goes, what he has suffered is no surprise! LFC’s medical team must have their hearts in their mouths on occasions the way he tackles whilst running side on to an opposing forward and putting his nearest leg accross the player! An injury of some kind was always going to happen!!! However I do think he has improved and has been playing better overall! And I hope he recovers asap!

    • Frank says:

is your three year old grand son related to Harry Redknapps mother?

      • DaveWestAus says:

The truth is there to anyone who has I eye for what I am talking about! ‘OPEN YOURS’

        • Frank says:

wide open sunny boy and all I can see is the ignorant who could suggest that that left foot is comparable to their 3 year old’s.

    • shibashis says:

“Let’s just see how LFC go without him??”, alright, lets say LFC goes on to win a fair few games without him. Will that prove to you that he is absolutely rubbish?
It is like saying if Barcelona wins a string of games without Messi, Messi is the worst player in the world !!!

      • DaveWestAus says:

I did not say he is rubbish,I was refering to the fact of the way he tackles on many occasions! And I maintain still, hat he ‘DOES NOT POSSESS A SHOT’

  • Ted says:

This continued reference to the “35 million pounds” that LFC paid for Carroll is really ridiculous. If the owners of the club wanted to be Carroll, and at the time that was the asking price for the sale, AND if they had the money and they then agreed to the price – done deal! What business is it to ANY LFC fan what they paid for him or any other player?? It is up to the owners and recruiting personal to make the buy – once that has been done – then thats the end of that!
He is a striker and was brought to score goals- just like any other striker was bought- how much he cost – 1 million, 5 million, 35 million – it really doesnt matter as that figure is ONLY RELEVANT THE PEOPLE THAT PAID THE MONEY – ie the OWNERS!
The only thing that should matter to us as supporters and fans is how many goals and assists any stiker gets per season and hence if he is doing his job well or not. That is all that matters to me as a supporter.
Carroll is at this stage not performing well – as per his results- goals and assists – hence he needs to improve in time or I guess he will be replaced.
The money spent on him is totally irrelevant to me .. I have better things to do in my life that concern my self with what the owners of LFC want to pay for any player- Im only concerned with what the current players are doing on the field and the results – and that is what all genuine supporters should be concerned about.
Leave the money and business side of the club to those concerned with that – its nothing that you or I have any say in and its nothing that we should be wasting any of our time on and certainly nothing to keep bringing up in order to justify our approval or criticism of any 1 player.

  • 5TIMES says:

I BET THE WRITER IS A WOOLEYBAC ? THAT MEANS SOME ONE WHO IS NOT FROM LIVERPOOL ! OK.. SO DO WE HAVE TO WAIT 5YEARS TO SEE ANDY CAMEL .. YES ANDY CAMEL … TURN IN TO A FOOTBALLER,, I DONT THINK SO HE WILL BE GONE IN THE SUMMER,, HOPEFULLY JANUARY AT A BARGIN 15MILLION.. HE IS A JOKE,, SO SLOW NO WORK RATE,, CARBOARD CUT OUT.. HAS HE BEEN HAVEING FALLING OVER LESSONS FROM EMIL HESKEY ????????

    • steve p says:

You talk about wooleybacs, a typical moronic attitude towards other supporters who do know about the club but weren’t born in the city. The old out of towner cliche!

Getting away from the article here, however I have been alive for 41 years and have only ever supported Liverpool through good times and bad, since I was 5 years old and am fed up with being referred to in this way. The person you originally referred to probably doesn’t have a Liverpool birthright or the knowledge of the club you have, however there is no need to refer to other Liverpool fans in this way.

    • Frank says:

pathetic to bring such prejudice to the table. You sir are the type of person that is loosing LFC the reputation fro having a knowledgeable KOP.

  • Towson Tom says:

Andy does’nt need to morph into anything, anyone that saw him play for Newcastle before his injury will know how good he is, his weakness if you can call it that is his abillity to adapt to new team-mates, unfortunately that difficult to do when constanly warming the bench, but he has time on his side, as KK said he was bought for the future and when we have the right service for him he will terrify opposing defences.

  • DW9 says:

You know what I hate? Condescending $%*#’s like you who call other fans that share a different view “so called fans”. You then continue to tell us how you did the exact same thing to Lucas and wanted him out and here you are berating someone for doing the exact same thing you did and now you act like the almighty fan of wisdom basing your whole argument on an inkling that Andy will improve tenfold in a couple of years as Lucas did. What Lucas has achieved in such a short time is quite extraordinary and we are to learn our lesson right and expect the same could happen to anyone yeah? How long have you been around?

Optimism is one thing but you take it a little too far when you take an amazing achievement by someone and want to apply it to everyone. Every player is different, every one of them have had different circumstances and there are millions of them but lets learn our lesson and never doubt the ability of a footballer ever again until he has been playing here for 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, I don’t know you tell us… cause we can never tell until then, it’s all about the potential and the possibilities of what might be and everyone needs to be afforded the same time Lucas was……just in case!!!!

Lucas was not great for a couple of years but he was persisted with because of his attitude and importantly his attitude towards training and improving himself. Not many could understand why he wasn’t sold given the performances he was giving but the club stuck by him as they saw something else and it turned out they were right. Andy on the other hand was the name on Reina’s lips when asked “Who is the worst trainer?”.

You might think I don’t like Carroll…well I’m a huge fan it’s just your flawed reasoning that I don’t like. Stop calling others “so called fans” over a certain topic you have shown to really have no concept of in the first place.

I really hope that Carroll blossoms here at Liverpool but given his performances it doesn’t surprise me at all that people are upset that we spent the same amount of money it would have taken to bring in one of the best strikers in the world. Sure we’re not paying world class wages but it could still be a lot of money down the drain if we continue to utilise him this poorly in games as his service has been woeful and it’s clear the team doesn’t understand how to get him scoring but in saying that his ball control has been woeful. I think he can only excel in a certain setup and we don’t have it but for that kind of money you expect a player that can adjust to any setup so yes fans are going to have varied views regarding him staying. Understand that maybe mate and deal with it.

    Poor article.

  • Gerradius says:

u guys just wait till we get Kagawa in January and some other pacey dangerous players who can score and assist. then Carroll will be scoring or making assists quite consistently.
lfc fans, y’all plzzzz follow me on twitter. my handle is @Gerrardious. I’ld gladly follow back. tanx

  • In Liverpool there is only 1player name Carroll .we must understand he have been brought for the future i myselve don’t believe there are few fans they prefere Carroll to replace Suarez so it’s continue in the same way for other remaining players criticise is not the solution use your Philosophy it’s better YNWA

  • Rob says:

Carroll is not a finished product, although he is a good player. He wasn’t signed to be a one man team, infact nobody was Kenny has tried to sign players that would make a superior unit when their individual talents are combined and we are slowly seeing this come to fruition with recent performances. Andy was bought to be a part of this unit and its fair to say that so far he has struggled,

It is true he needs to improve technically and his tactical reading of the game he needs to improve his work rate and train harder to fulfil his undoubted potential as his lack of desire to train hard pointed out by pepe says he is happy at his level and doesn’t believe there to be major flaws in his game.

Although it’s true andy needs game time it is difficult to field an out of form player considering that Liverpool are still out to prove themselves as genuine contenders making every game and point as important as the last.

Most of all what andy needs is a bit of luck a good understanding of his role and partner shares, but most of all support and belief from us fans

  • teesomethang says:
