Nearly all positives on a night where the fringe players shone

|

Jamie Carragher showed that he is far from finished in the Liverpool first team with a typically committed display, and his experience would no doubt have been essential in organising the backline and advising Kelly and Coates. As for the players who remained from the draw with City, Reina, Enrique and Henderson were all impressive.

The one negative of the night was a potentially serious injury to Lucas, the one other player who also started against City. The Brazilian midfielder damaged his knee and left the pitch on a stretcher. His absence would be a huge blow as he has been in superb form this season, and fans will be praying the results of a scan show he won’t be out for too long.

All in all a superb night for Liverpool. They controlled the game from start to finish with a much-changed line-up, and even had the luxury of resting Luis Suarez. There is no reason to fear any of the sides left in this competition, and the players can now focus on picking up more points in the league and climbing the table.

I am currently studying Sports Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire. I have recently finished my first year of the course, and I am hoping to hone my skills by writing pieces for live4liverpool.

I have supported Liverpool since the age of 6, and in that time my favourite player has been Robbie Fowler. My favourite match was the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan.

Apologies for being behind on Lucas’ injury, this was written yesterday before the full extent had been revealed.

excellent performance! there were times Chelski couldn’t touch Liverpool. the movement, the passing, all very sleek and silky.
    good times ahead!!!

Excellent performance by the team except for Carroll!! It seems like his touch & movement gets worse with every game!! I don’t mean to emphasise on the negatives but he has been such a disappointing & expense acquisition at the moment. I just hope i’m proved wrong sooner rather than later & he’ll prove his worth.
