He has found regular action harder to come by so far in 2011/12, making just one substitute appearance in the league so far, but has played all four League Cup ties, including the difficult trips to Stoke and Chelsea, where he once again showed he can do a job when asked to.
Spearing has done enough to warrant a run in the first team, and with Lucas and Gerrard both missing, Dalglish could give him another go after his impressive displays last season. At 23 years old he is still young, and while there may be doubts over his ability to become a regular for years to come at Anfield, he won’t be able to prove anything unless he is given a proper chance.
On Monday, Liverpool head to Fulham, where they won 5-2 last season. Spearing put in a good performance and played the full 90 minutes, and we could just see him there again at Craven Cottage this time around. This is his chance to properly show what he can do. The pressure is on, and it’s up to him to rise to the challenge.
