Kick-Off: 3:00pm

LIVERPOOL will go into their Premier League home game against second from bottom side Wigan today, on the back of surrendering a two-goal lead in their last league game, away to QPR.

A wonder goal from Sebastian Coates and a close range effort from Dirk Kuyt seemed to have the red cruising before QPR’s late fightback. Kuyt’s goal was just his second of the season in the league, coming from 36 efforts at goal with 58% on target.

Kuyt also covered the most ground for Liverpool with 6.13 miles, which is probably no surprise for the Duracell-Bunny Dutchman.

The Reds have particularly struggled at home this season in the league, failing to break-down teams who many expect to be put to the sword with convincing ease. However this hasn’t been the case – even though Liverpool have put in more crosses than any other team according to the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index with 467.

This is further emphasised by a lack of finishing touch – personified by Stewart Downing, who has the joint second highest number of shots without a goal (54), and even talisman Steven Gerrard who has put in more crosses without being credited an assist than any other player with 42 crosses delivered.

Wigan’s dangerman could come in the form of Jean Beausejour, who has put in 31 crosses this season, averaging one every 21 minutes 50 seconds – putting him in the top 6 in the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index for minutes per cross.

In what has been a rollercoaster of a season, Liverpool finally need to put in a convincing home performance which leads to a win.

Liverpool’s problems this season especially away from home is due to the personnel involved on the pitch. These personnel as we saw at QPR are not able to catch teams late on on the fast break therefore allowing teams such as QPR to push up and compress the play. It is time now in the last nine games to start Sterling from the start and for Dalglish to cut out his stonewalling chickens–t attitude.
