LIVERPOOL FC Player of the Year Martin Skrtel is said to be keen to hold talks with new manager Brendan Rodgers, amidst interest from other clubs who are interested in signing the Slovakian centre-back.

Skrtel, who was voted the Reds Player of the Year upon conclusion of the season (as well as winning the vote on L4L), is said to be a target of the newly crowned Premier League champions Manchester City, according to various radio sources (including Liverpool’s Radio City), and newspapers such as The Daily Mail.

After last season’s disappointments in the league, and with a new manager in place, Skrtel’s agent Karol Cstonto revealed his client wishes to speak to Rodgers before he follows his defensive partner Daniel Agger’s lead, in committing his long-term future to the club:

“Some changes have been made at the club and he wants to know what the aims and ambitions are. And of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin’s new contract.

“Liverpool is a big club and just because they haven’t made the Champions League this year doesn’t mean they would not do it next year. There are expectations on both sides, though.”

Skrtel, who is currently on his honeymoon after marrying his long-term partner (and source of his squad number ‘37’ – read my interview with him here, for details), has also been linked with AC Milan and big-spending Russians Anzhi Makhachkala in recent weeks.

Jimmy Areabi (Editor) - @fantasista1077: Huyton raised like Steven Gerrard, football has been my passion since the time I received a Kenny Dalglish badge as a toddler, and I've followed the Reds ever since – something that was easier during the 80s, when I worshipped John Barnes! I've produced work for many football media outlets & am now happy to run a major site on the club I love - providing our fans with a voice, and to bring as much information and news on the club as possible.

If he wants to go let him.
Gives away too many free kicks and penalties and suspect in the air aswell.
Coates is a better long term option IMO.
20 million? I’d snap their arm off!!

    • You heard says:

I personally would want him to stay but if wants to go then 17-20 million and not a penny less. No one is bigger than the club. I expect that he will stay. As for Coates, he is promising but he must get in better shape. Hire a fitness instructor. I dont think he is ready for regular first team action.

If its man city then nothing less than 25mil. We can get a good defender for 10mil or less and the balance 4 a winger/striker

Skrtel should go and give way to Kelly and Coates to wear regular shirts. Start them with just 5 games, expect buyers next season. Some hungry talented players are full in the market that will perform better. Rodger, bring them and show them your tiki-taka. They will adapt faster than Skrtel. Really tired of the kick-and-follow abrahamic kind of football. Many will not cope with the new method. Bye-bye Skrtel.

i think we should let him go for
20mil+ that would be a really good bit of business. but the only problem is that his the only regular playing defender you can rely on being fit more often than not

  • Mike Johns says:

I also think 20mil+ as not bad at all, Then you get a good team in place.
