Greatness Lost? Under Rodgers It Is…

“TO finish as high as last season (8th place) or better would be a fantastic achievement” – Brendan Rodgers.

When I saw this headline in one of the morning papers I had to pinch myself. That had to be a mistake; a misunderstanding or something else, but not true! But unfortunately it was.

In May King Kenny was sacked due to a not good enough league position, despite winning the League Cup, getting to the FA Cup final, having third best defence in the league and playing some of the best attacking football in the league.

It was hard to take, but at least it showed ambition to move forward up the league.

Surely if you replace a manager you want his successor to improve on his results, not the contrary!

The problem with Rodgers, in my opinion, is that he’s a small team manager not suited to a big club like Liverpool. He doesn’t seem to understand that praising some non-existing ‘domination’ in a three-nil loss, ‘courage’ of a backpass to an opponent, or constant complaining about referees is nonsense at the top level.

A total of three wins against three relegation favourites in the first dozen of games, the same amount of clean sheets, total dependence on one player in attack and a bottom-half place with third of the season gone. And worst of all, the ambition is 8th place. Is there anyone who can help Rodgers with packing?

I know that sacking a manager is always a major shock for the club, but I think that it’s not too late to save the season yet. Rodgers did his best to offload good players and replace them with Swansea calibre types, but LFC is big enough to correct this mistake.

King Kenny spent £35 million (net) to have a big squad that gave him lots of depth and delivered the first trophy in seven years. The football was there, a cup was in the trophy room, but league results weren’t.

Rodgers spent £25 million (net), showed the door to cup-winning players and failed to replace them, constantly complaining about how young and small his squad is, never mind it was Rodgers who made it this way. Poor results, lack of ambition, and constant moaning. The great club is losing its ‘greatness’ and I don’t know why the decision hasn’t been made yet.

I would show the Ulsterman the door, then the club has to ensure the right decision is made; no more experiments with Championship level coaches, please. Give the job to a man who knows the club inside out, won major trophies with it, played under one of the two greatest LFC players ever and has been vice-captain to the other. Jamie Carragher won’t let the greatest club in the world lose its greatness. It’s his flesh and blood.

Any decent fan can not defend Rodgers , his results are nothing short of disgraceful and all we hear are excuses excuses excuses
We are further away from the top teams now , than ever before

excellent article . rodgers must be sacked , shame on fans who support a guy who is so bad for our once great club

  • dee says:

35million for carrol and 20million for downing sums it up. Ur write up is unbelieveable.

  • professor zem says:

Rodgers has implemented a different style of playing at the club and the team have had to adapt to this new style. It’s not beyond the grasp of anyone to realise results would be mixed while everyone adjusts. The huge amount of money that was wasted by KD and Comolli last summer for very little return has made FSG cautious in the transfer market, hence no bidding war for Sigurdsson or Dempsey. Rodgers has shipped out most of KD’s poorly considered transfers and I think most, if not all of us, are glad to see the back of Adam and Carroll. Downing has been told he can leave and Spearing has also gone. The comments calling for Rodgers to be sacked are similar to those from last year except it was KD who was the target. Rodgers is building for the future – let him finish the job.

    • trance says:

  • The Talent says:

Brods was brought in and was wise from the offset by doing the mother of all PR stunts by talking up the club, our history, us fans and the implementation of this magical philosophy that will set us up for a great future. Well all I ask from my manager is to please talk the talk and walk the walk cause all you doing is just doing the talk. Playing to fans ego’s by calling them educated when a result does not go the teams way is infact an insult but on the contary fans don’t see it this way as they love their ego’s stroked by perceiving themselves to be on par with fanatsy manager thoughts by agreeing and never questioning. Well here’s to the next 2 thirds of our season and if we think the teams above us are going to mysteriously roll over and die and all off sudden stop playing football so we can walk into a top 6 position then perhaps there is more delusional fans out there than I thought…

  • bailey says:

  • fotheringham says:

    • wesker says:

yes true ,his ‘supporters’ must be mancs or toffees
and if they not , then shame on them

    • anteater says:

Erm, no. But those folks would tell you that we should have kept Benítez. We are a laughing stock for quite a while now. It’s probably, partly, down to some of our fans still thinking we are in the 80s and win everything that’s there to win. Back then we’ve had a successful team. A new manager didn’t have to make major changes to the playing personnel. It was until Souness took over inheriting an ageing squad. He tried to make to many of the necessary changes in too little time and is now seen as the man who’s destroyed us by some people. Benítez assembled a great squad, but that, too, started crumbling when he left (Alonso had left by then, Mascherano wanted to leave, too). We still have a core of really good players from back then, but it will take time to build a squad around them. We don’t have the same pull we’ve had when Benítez took over (due to the failure to qualify for the CL). It will take time and our current manager is right in trying to do something against the exaggerated expectations of some of our fans.

Rubbish . One of the biggest clubs worldwide in football . one of the biggest revenues in world football .

  • horrid henry says:

What more does he have to do to ger sacked ???
This is a joke that a Liverpool manager doing such a horrendous job , has not yet been fired
FSG kop on and do SOMETHING productive for once – SACK BR

  • steveO says:

Excellent article . All true . We must be vocal ,let the owners know we want a decent manager , LETS GET RODGERS OUT for the sake of our future

  • anteater says:

Not too long ago we’ve had a manager who guaranteed that we would finish forth one particular season. We didn’t, even though we’ve had a much better and much more experienced squad than now, he was sack, but some people still think he is the messiah. Now we are in a rebuilding process, youngsters are being introduced to the first team, high-earners left as our wage bill wasn’t sustainable for a club not earning CL money for quite a few years, yet some folks still expect instant success. I know that wanting everything in an instant is very much the current zeitgeist, and it is kind of sad because people stop to take the actual situation into consideration.

  • vickers says:

    1. 11 th in the league – disgraceful
    2. out of the league cup because of rodgers selection – our best chance of a trophy
    3. virtually out of europe because of rodgers selection
    4. 28 million wasted on poor players
    5. keeps making excuses
    6. wasting gerrards talents by playing him in wrong position
    7. slags off his own players in public
    8. seems generally tactically inept – wrong formation etc
    9. only has one way of playing , no plan B
    10. persists with his pet joe allen – he is clearly no good
    11. left us with one striker for half a season
    12. wont be able to attract top players in january
    13. doesnt aim high enough , we are liverpool not swansea
    14. plays boring sideways football

just 14 reasons why rodgers should be sacked

  • grey wolf says:

Rodgers has great players at his disposal , reina ,skrt , agger , johnson , lucas , gerrard and suarez
plus some of the best youth anywhere , sterling suso wisdom shelvey

any moron would have us waay higher than 11th

    he is incompetent

  • Jack The Lad says:

What an absolute astonishing, confounding, astounding retarded attempt of an article!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So in your dumb opinion as a halfwit clown of a writer, you say sack BR because he has not proven himself at top level and replace him with Carragher with ‘years’ of expierence. PACK UP WRITING THASH, ACTUALLY PACK UP ATTEMPTING TO WRITE TOTALLY!!

  • holly says:

good article , well written and accurate

  • dave says:

sack BR and bring back RB at end of season

  • redrum says:

Sack Glenda Rodgers before he makes us even worse , if thats possible . And dont let him near our money in january please , Roma and Swansea are still probably laughing their heads off after the summer window
