Will FSG play Santa or Scrooge this Christmas?

EVERYONE is looking forward to the festive celebrations and the host of football fixtures that come with it.

However, those that tend to think beyond Christmas will have their minds set on the fact that in just over two weeks time the January transfer window opens and provides Liverpool with the chance to make up for lost time last summer.

It is as clear as day that the Reds need reinforcements, especially in the attacking department, and that is exactly what is expected of Brendan Rodgers come January 1st. There have been whispers that deals for Blackpool’s ex-Liverpool winger Tom Ince and Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge are close to completion, nevertheless, that is something we have heard many times before and it would be wise to steer clear of treating these stories as gospel truth until it is confirmed by the club.

Our American owners, Fenway Sports Group, backed previous manager Kenny Dalglish with a healthy budget for transfers and it seems as though Brendan Rodgers is paying the price for a string of poor signings by the Scot. Taking into account money that was recouped from the sales of Aquilani, Kuyt, Adam and Maxi, Rodgers was given around £20million to spend in the summer – not the most substantial amount for a manager trying to reignite the sleeping giants of English football.

It may become evident that Rodgers again needs to sell to buy this January, however, after an apology was issued by John Henry both publically to the fans and privately to the manager regarding the size of the squad Rodgers has had to work with, you would expect Mr Henry to put his hand in his pocket this next month to give the club the cash it needs to improve.

If Rodgers does choose to sell some players, then you would expect the likes of Joe Cole, Dani Pacheco and Stewart Downing to be in the firing line for potential sales. Those three alone, wages included, could provide Rodgers with upwards of £15million to use on transfers.

Liverpool are yet to turn their season around despite the West Ham result which proved another false dawn after Saturday’s disappointing home defeat at the hands of Aston Villa. A change of form is needed, but a well-backed Brendan Rodgers could steer Liverpool towards a top four challenge; something that hasn’t been seen at Anfield for a few years now. Despite having his sceptics, many Liverpool fans believe Rodgers is the man, given adequate time, to get Liverpool back on track and back challenging for honours domestically and on the European front.

It is now time for FSG to show their true colours and prove many Liverpool fans wrong who doubt their credentials as the owners they initially promised to be. If FSG are serious about turning Liverpool back into the European heavyweights they once were then Rodgers must be backed with money. As we know in football nowadays, you get nowhere unless you can spend a few quid on some top talent.

I think Rodgers should quit. He isnt good enough to manager Liverpool. His tactics are questionable, the roles the players perform are questionable, in fact against Villa, it looked like only a couple knew what they were meant to do.

I dont know whats happened to Reina but he isnt the same keeper who won 4 golden glove awards in a row.

We dont have a first choice left back even though Enrique is one of the best in the land.

Glen Johnson as much as I love him going forward, his defensive work leaves a lot to be desired.

Lucas needs a partner in midfield that can create and score goals. What is Joe Allens role in the team?

Steven Gerrard is having his worst ever season in a Liverpool shirt. Time to give up the international stuff or perhaps needs to move further up the pitch

Luis Suarez. The whole club is about him at the moment. If he was to leave, it would generate £35-40m of necessary funds to go and buy replacements.

Raheem Sterling – So much pressure on a 17 year old kid to delivery week in week out, no wonder he is now producing the inconsistent form we all worried about.

I am a true Liverpool fan, but this season is a joke. If you like stats, the word is that Brendan Rodgers has only won 29% of his games in charge. 29%.

Why don’t you speak for yourself..a lot of us also feel he isn’t the right manager for liverpool..and I find this post disappointing with you saying fsg to show their true colour..how many owners do you know after wasting 100m,provide 30m for a new manager, and would still provide more in january..if you were not already on the rodgers bandwagon.you should be asking the question of what rodgers did with that 30m and how it improved our squad.fsg have been backing managers since they bought the club

  • steve says:

hope im wrong but i think these owners are trying to pull the wool over our eyes, they get your hopes up by saying one thing and then they say we have to balance the books,i dont think they care one bit how good we play or what position we are at as long as they are making money, this transfer window will show there true coulors, just hope they back brendon with some serious intent

  • stey says:

As conmen FSG will obviously be Scrooge, not that it matters anyway as whatever money Rodgers has, however little or vast, will be wasted on crap like Allen.

    Rodgers OUT!!!!!!
    FSG OUT!!!!!!

  • Razzie says:

Rodgers is a complete joke, could not manage a non league team never mined Liverpool. Didn’t get Rafa back was a huge mistake and not selling to DIC was a massive error on the part of Parry ( toss pot ). As for Rodgers he can take Allen with him when he leaves as well as Joe Cole
FSG only want to make money out of Liverpool, don’t have a cule about football that’s why we have Rodgers as our manager.

    • vickers says:

      spot on

    • Prole79 says:

You do realise that DIC are gone bankrupt since!!!

      • bob says:

erm … no not true . DIC is alive and well , wiki it if you dont believe me

anyway DIC is only a subsidiary of dubai holding , which is owned by some of the worlds richest , impossible for them to go bankrupt

    • Razzie says:

Please, DIC chief is a Liverpool fan and season ticket holder.
Can,t stand the team being in the position they are in.
I hope for all the fans sake that the people running LFC can turn it around. We will all have a clearer understanding about FSG and BR in the next few weeks.

      • redrum says:

we can all only dream …. of what life would have been like if we sold to DIC . … aaah nice dream .. but now back to the nightmare

  • vickers says:

I hope FSG spend nothing for 2 reasons
1 . It will finally wake up the dopey fools who still think FSG have good intentions
2 . We cant let that moopet Rodgers waste any more money , 30 million wasted in the summer totally , if he signs more he will weaken the team even more

We were so much better last year under Kenny , the likes of Allen ,Borini and Assaidi are not just rubbish -they are embarrassing

  • amcnish says:

I do believe Rodgers can get us playing good football but I don’t think we have the players for it. Gerrard seems to be declining fast, Allen is nothing like xavi no matter how many times he gets compared to him. Glen is good going forward but leaves us open at the back (kelly everytime). And Suarez desperately needs a strike partner. Oh and pepe is well off, put brad back between the sticks. Rodgers needs time but he also needs to buy well. Stop taking punts on players that may or may not become world class and buy ready made class players. Look at the teams around us buying santi/Mata/Silva for similar money that we piss up the wall on downing/hendo/allen. Rant over

  • harry86 says:

Let me ask all Liverpool fans out there this . Would ANY of the players mentioned interest Utd , City , Chelsea or Arsenal ?

sturridge ince butland hooper gomis selcuk yilmaz ?????? NONE of these would even interest Spurs or Everton

Rodgers must be stopped b4 he saddles our club with even more lightweight average players

He is wasting our funds . When the new manager comes , how much will we get back for Allen ? maybe 3m ? . Or Borini ? 3 or 4 m ? if we are lucky we will be able to sell them next summer

    • Prole79 says:

      ‘When the new manager comes’
What utter trash! Rodgers is staying long term.

      • stevieG says:

No get the fker OUT – there is only 1 thing yanks hate more than losing – that is losing money

There will be no champions league football next season + when they see he wont bring it the year after ( which he wont ) + his horrendous transfer mistakes ,then bye bye and good riddance

11 months more max , most fans cant wait

    • stevieG says:

None of the players ive heard rumoured are good enough for LFC , except walcott and he wont come

Rodgers is dragging us down into oblivion

  • C Simmons says:

Rodgers will be sacked at the end of the season , although they should really do it now before he squanders the january transfer kitty

  • bob says:

Fans must stand up and force rodgers removal ,before he takes us so far back we may never recover

  • Matt says:

After the ‘letter of apology’ from FSG I hope they learn from their mistakes. While some fans saying the players linked with Liverpool are not good enough, then tell me what top players would want to come to us and also manager? We offer no champions league and our league position would turn top players away, only our history great pride and passion for the club can entice players here, but it seems these days that players only chase money and that’s something we can’t offer.

    • gilligan says:

Many top players would want to come here but ONLY if we have a top manager in place . The names of potential managers have been mentioned many times already so i wont repeat

One things for sure ,ANYONE is better than BR

  • Tony t says:

Sack the fool , only then can we move forward

  • Ozred says:

In the 2 x years fsg have been in charge they have spent a net 64m less whatever funds are retrieved for carrol. For arguments sake we could reduce that to 50m.

Whilst not enough to challenge with the big boys, they have hardly been shy of spending. When dalgliesh torches 60m+ on downing Henderson Adam Carroll etc it wouldn’t really matter how much they provide us with as it will be paid at 4 times overs.

Rogers at this point has very little to show for the 28m he splurged this year. Whilst the jury is still out, I find it unbelievable that our 2 key summer signings which cost 25m have come from clubs he’s coached and we were an inch away from dropping another 8m on another in sigurdson.

Surely with 35m in funds he can look beyond the championship players he’s previously coached. This is the key concern I’ve got with Rogers at this point and he will need to deliver in the next window if funds are available or he may be back at reading in the summer
