WITH plans being announced to expand Anfield it is becoming increasingly clear that the Reds are looking to enhance their image. However, the facelift isn’t purely material.
Along with the stadium expansion it seems evident that the club will loosen the purse strings and allow manager Brendan Rodgers to compete in the January transfer market.
The owners were understandably frightened by the wastefulness of King Kenny but they need to realize that the only way to compete in today’s game with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City is by spending big. So who is on the radar that compliments the new style of play Rodgers brings?
First and foremost a goalscorer needed to be brought in.
It was right of the club to let Carroll go but not without bringing in a suitable replacement. And with Borini under-performing and injured, the need for a creative attacking player was all the more imminent – is that man Daniel Sturridge? Luis Suárez can only do so much and an aging (although still brilliant) Gerrard is needed all over the field to fill the gaps. There seems to be plenty of options in January.
Gary Hooper has previously been heavily linked with a move to the Merseyside club, as was Demba Ba before our capture of Strurridge from Chelsea sparked the West London club into action by activating Ba’s release clause from Newcastle. Hooper is a natural goalscorer but I can’t picture Liverpool bringing both him and Sturridge in. I feel that a move for both would clog the lineup and limit the productivity and chances of the strikers.

As the months wore on it appeared that Daniel Sturridge was a certainty to sign, and so it proved. Sturridge comes with a solid chance conversion of 15.00% but also brings with him somewhat of a questionable character. Assuming this player can replicate his form from Chelsea under André Villas-Boas then it won’t be much of a gamble.
Two young players who have been heavily linked with Liverpool are Blackpool’s Tom Ince and Birmingham’s Jack Butland. Ince, a young, exciting wide player, was already at Liverpool but was let go for a cut-price. Brendan Rodgers will have to be certain that Ince has improved since he is going to have to pay a considerable amount more for the player that Liverpool let go. As for Jack Butland, the gamble could be well worth it for the highly rated shot- stopper, who at 19 undoubtedly has his best days ahead of him. With the form of José Reina struggling at times and his age coming in to question, a move for the youthful English international seems wise.
No matter what happens come January it appears that Liverpool are set for some excitement. Hopefully management has the faith in Brendan Rodgers to provide him with the necessary funds to field his ideal squad.

Nothing new here then.
Sorry but have you not learned last years lesson yet?, you keep mensioning british names, and that’s exactly what caused Kenny’s dismissal, with the overated and overpriced, so called british talent.
LFC need (like any other team)QUALITY, and you will not find then, this part of the world, there’s more gifted players abroad, and at much less cost!!!.
Agree with Red – there is cheaper, better quality abroad. Llorente for example is in final year of his contract – talk is that he could go for as little as £5/6 M. This is the sort of player we should go for.
Its worrying that only mediocre players like Sturridge , and championship level (at best ) players like Hooper are being linked with us
While we buy rubbish like Allen ,Borini n Assaidi – Meanwhile our rivals are buying the quality . Cazorla cost less than Allen and is ten times better .
You got it right on mate 🙂
What?? Hooper? you must be mental to even mention him. No offence to him, but he is nowhere near the sort of player we need. He is not versatile and he could crumble under massive pressure of playing for liverpool and not to forget the ever demanding fans, rememeber Charlie Adam.
Kevin Gameiro is name that was thrown around and i think we did inquire about him. He could be a top signing, besides it’s mooted as a loan deal, so it’s no-brainer really.
Suarez-Sturridge-Gameiro could be awesome
Rodgers wont go for any top players , he is not a good enough manager to attract big names
Ive heard Di Santo was coming – now that would be the biggest embarrassment in the history of LFC
Complement, means to add to something in a beneficial way, as opposed to compliment, which means to praise. You’re not very good at this writing lark, are you?
This is great, I’ve just refuted your dream deal argument and you’ve deleted it and turned off comments? Sad!
