LUCAS Leiva has signed a new long-term contract for one reason – he believes that Liverpool FC can return to their glory days of old under current manager, Brendan Rodgers.
The Brazilian, whose initial contract was set to run until 2015, has already collected over 200 appearances for Liverpool since arriving in 2007 and is delighted to be able to play many more. On signing his new deal, he stated:
“I am really delighted to have the opportunity to play for this club. It’s where I think I belong and where I wanted to stay. It was an easy decision because after the long period of my career I have had here, I think I would like to give the best of my time to this club.
“Liverpool is definitely home. My son was born here and I have a lot of relationships with people outside of the club. Brendan played a big part in my new deal. I spoke with him a few times before we agreed the new contract.
“He has been a very good manager for all of us and we’re really looking forward to next season. We know how he works and how he wants us to play, and everyone is looking forward to having a better season.”
