FSG made their bed – now should continue to lie in it

Image for FSG made their bed – now should continue to lie in it

Tom Werner & John HenryA friend once suggested Gringo is short for ‘Green go’; a phrase he claimed used to describe unwelcome American army personal in Vietnam. This imaginary origin of the word, in my opinion, is particularly apt in describing the mercenaries who claim to be ‘custodians’ of Liverpool FC.

The word actually just refers to people who have a certain type of accent which prevents them from speaking Castilian (or Spanish) easily and naturally. I believe, so far, the ‘accent’ (the spirit and way) of FSG seems to not sit well with the ‘accent’ (the spirit and way) of Liverpool FC.

Rodgers’ Liverpool stumbled and bumbled to a fortunate win over Villa. Not convincing but an okay display. Villa will feel hard done by, quiet rightly as they dominated for much of the game. If Villa do go down by one point then Gabriel Agbonlahor will be haunted by the point-blank-save-by/shot-hit-straight-at Pepe Reina. The European dream, nay the Europa League dream isn’t over – but we never dreamt of Europa League football…

We dreamt of Champions league football and that dream, like our season, ended long ago.

As this season officially starts to draws to a close, I wonder if FSG (those Football Club Spoiling Gringos) will be writing us another letter of apology. I hear the rumours of Carlo Ancelotti replacing Rodgers and feel nothing. I’m not full of joy or despair, and there is no excitement or anything else. I’m indifferent. Why?

Last season Kenny Dalglish lead Liverpool FC to two cup finals, wining one and an eighth place finish. Andy Carroll struggled but started to look like a real footballer at this point of last season (much like he did this weekend, maybe it’s his lucky time of year). FSG backed Kenny Dalglish with money but not time.

This season Rodgers has not been backed financially when compared to last season. A great deal of the ‘dead wood’ on big salaries and underperforming, has been cut away from the LFC teat. They now suckle elsewhere, and shall never darken our door again, amen. FSG are expected by many like me to back Rodgers with time, a luxury not afforded to Kenny. Looking back now, last season was even more of a success.

We’ve heard a great deal of noise referring to Carlo Ancelotti heading to Anfield. If this is the case then why have FSG wasted Rodgers and LFC time and money?

If FSG wanted a proven manager with experience and respect in the game then King Kenny was here and succeeding; given time, I firmly believe his way would have worked. In my opinion Sterling would have come through just the same and Coutinho and Sturridge were already on the LFC (and everyone else’s) radar. I believe Jonjo Shelvey would have had a better season under Kenny. The support from Rodgers seems to be inconsistent while Kenny always stands firmly, shoulder to shoulder with his players. Maybe Kenny had to go because of the support he gave his players (Suarez-Evra-gate). In my opinion this would not have been a good reason to sack King Kenny, and I hope that played no part in FSG’s thinking (or lack of).
[ad_pod id=”unruly-video” align=”center”]
Carlo Ancelotti is a good manager, but he will want real money to bring in his own players. I would like Rodgers to be given another season to prove his ideas work, or don’t work. Life is short but two seasons is a fair crack at being a top manager for a top club. If we’re not top four or narrowly missing top four next season then I will meet anyone outside Anfield with a banner begging for Rodgers to go and a Carlo Ancelotti type to come in during May 2014.

What point was there to the ‘Rodgers experiment’ if we change now?

Chopping and changing managers has only worked for clubs with almost unlimited funds such as Chelsea. We aren’t like Chelsea, and need to heed the warning of managerial change radiated by Newcastle United in the past, Blackburn Rovers and others.

Imagine building an extension where you suddenly lost faith in the builder and sacked him halfway through the job. You still have to pay him the full amount owed (unless he finds a new job sooner, when you can pay him less). You still need the extension, so have to pay a new builder. In the beautiful game, you have to sack the support staff too; they need to be paid and new support staff must be hired. Usually all the people coming in have jobs elsewhere, so they need to be bought out of their contracts.

Everyone needs to be paid, money spent here, there and everywhere! The costs of each managerial change must be at least £9+ million (last season LFC spent £9.5m on exceptional payments which included payments to King Kenny and costs of hiring Brendan Rodgers).

Would you run your own finances like this? Not me (at these prices, I’d have kept Kenny).

The idea of giving a relatively unknown, young ambitious manager, a shot at the ‘big time’, in my opinion needs to be explored properly before we throw in our cards and play a new hand.

Now we’ve rolled the dice let’s play the game properly and find out if we’ve won or lost. Let’s get behind Rodgers and see if he can take us to the top (ish) of the table.

Disclaimer: Rafael Benitez is welcome back any time, he’s got unfinished business and more importantly he’s one of us. In Rafa we Trust.

An armchair fan who loves the stadium experience but likes the bread and butter of replays, moronic pundits, a drink in a pub atmosphere. LFC is my religion.

Common sense is missing from football but the situation is always complicated so I endeavour to give opinion and encourage discussion and thought about LFC.

In what was was ‘King Kenny’ succeeding? Yes, the club finished 8th, with the lowest points total Liverpool had gained since the start of the Premier League. He won a cup that the previous holders had been relegated the season they won it. Along with Commoll, he bought players for well beyond their valu. Carroll was never £54m worth, or even half that. Adam was clumsy. Yes Downing and Henderson are looking better now, but Downing will never be worth the money paid for him.

The problem is thet FSG replaced him with a manager with no track record, and who is only convincing in press conferences. The club has little choice but to stick with him and only time will tell. Personally, I’m not optimistic. Tbe only good news in the last couple of weeks is that Allen won’t be playuing for the rest of the season

  • ScouseUK says:

so if any of the top teams play badly but win that a sign of champions but we do it and it slagg owners and manager time….if rodders finishes above kenny will that make him a better manager….we are showing signs of improvment and yes there are times when you just wanna smash the telly but what else can we do….we have to support the team win or loose and get behind the staff and owners and when it fails then voice our concerns…i just dont understand how people wanted to give kenny more time but want rodders gone after not even a full season, bloodie hell if the internet had been around when shanks started he wouldnt of lasted 6 months

When Rodgers wins 4 league titles and numerous cups THEN he can be compared to Kenny.

Until then he is just a fat Irish fool who haswon ziltch

  • Mark Henry says:

Under Rogers Lfc are a non entity, he needs to be replaced before we are left in the mid table, I’m can’t wait for him to the elbow, curtains please FSG.

  • Denis D says:

The truth of the matter is that our club needs some huge/major investment in the playing staff/players at club. When our club was great in the past and United were jealous of us, the club had 2/3 class, quality players competing for every position. And every player was kept on their toes as if a player in first team slacked or was injured or suspended. The person who came in to replace him was as good as him or better and would make it his lfes work to stay in team and not be on bench again. We had class, quality competition for places.

Same thing Manchester United now have and have had over the last 20 odd years , something we do not have as we have a pathetically weak side.

And either the owners sell up and move on or they back B Rodgers heavily with £90-£100M in the summer to get our club back amongst the elite. And if we are to keep hold of our Talisman L Suarez. Club needs strong competitive squad if we are ever going to compete and challenge United again consistently year in year out for every trophy.

Over the years : Bayern Munich, Man City, PSG, Chelsea, Real Madrid over last three seasons have spent idiculous amounts of millins to get back to where they are today amonsgt the elite in wold football again. Our club does not need to spend over £320M over three seasons. But we need one huge budget to get club back amonsgt the elite, then after that. Year by year we can attract a marquee signing. (£20M + Player)

The owners need to give B Rodgers £90M to bring in 11 players this summer, he has already shipped out 11 players since he joined in summer( Adams, Aquilani, Aurelio,Bellamy, Carroll,Cole,Doni, Kuyt, Rodriguez, Spearing and Wilson) Yet three of the players are only out on loan.

But Rodgers has only been able to replace 5 players(Assaidi,Allen,Borini,Coutinho and Sturridge) yet 11 went out of club. So thats 6 players the squad is currently short of.

And Rodgers needs to ship out these 4 players who are not good enough to be at club: And the three loan players should be shipped out also:

    1: GK: B JONES 2: RB: Flanagan 3:CB: Coates 4:FD: Borini

Three loaned out players: 5: CB: Wilson 6:DM: Spearing 7:FD: Carroll

And as the loyal great servant J Carragher is hanging up his boots at end of season, that would mean 8 players should be leaving this summer. 8+ 6 = 14 players.

But Rodgers needs to bring in 11 players once he ships out the 8 players i have mentioned above:

And these are the 11 players needed for our club to take step forward again and compete against the elite sides in europe again: Buy bring class, quality competition amongst squad, so everyone player in club is kept on their toes always and they play to their maximum every time they put on the red shirt. As over last Five season Incomplacency has crept into side, as the class, quality competition for places is very low at club. And the squad for the last five years has been very weak/poor to say the least.

These 11 players would change the whole dimension to club/squad and every player would bring their class and qualities to take us more competitive against the elite sides in world and the normal sides:

    Five Defensive players: Cost £25M-£30M
1: GK: M Vorm(29) Of Swansea for £2-£4M to compete and Cover Pepe for NO 1 Position
2: CB: A Williams(28) Of Swansea for £7-£10M to compete with Skrtel
3:CB: A Pearce(24) Of Reading on Free Transfer to compete with Agger.
4:LB: A Cissokho(25) Of Valencia for £4-£7M to compete with Enrique.
5:DM: E Capoue(DM) Of Toulouse for £6-£9M to compete with Lucas

    Six Attacking players: Cost:£37M-54M
6: CM: De Guzman(25) Of Villareal for £4-£7M to compete with Allen, Gerrard and Henderson.
7:AM: C Eriksen(21) Of Ajax for £10-£15M to compete with Coutinho and Suso for the AM Postion at club.
8: RW / RWF: J Montero(23) Of Monarcas Morelia in Mexico for £4-£6M to compete with Assaidi and Sterling.
9: LW / LWF: D Capel(25) Of Sporting Clube De Portugal/Sporting Lisbon for £4-£6M to compete with Downing.
10: LW /LWF: B Arfa(25) Of Newcastle in swap deal with A Carroll(23) And £10M to compete with hopefully Capel and Downing. (Three pacey, quick left footed wingers)
11: C Benteke(22) Of A Villa for £15-£20M to compete with Sturridge and Suarez and to offer club/squad a Plan B in attack.

Those 11 players would cost owners a £1M more than what K Dalglish was allowed to spend on 4 average English players( Adams,Carroll,Downing And Henderson).

This is not Fantasy football, we used to compete with Manchester United every season for every trophy back in the 80?s, But now in the last five seasons we have been competing with the likes of Everton, Newcastle, Stoke and Fulham for a top 6-10 position within the league. I agree with 80% of the article, but the main problem with our club is some serious investment in the playing staff is needed. And the right type of calibre, class, player needs to be brought to the club. And all the average /dead wood players we still have at club or on club books need to be shipped out as soon as possible. We no longer need to bring in the average hardworking players. And the players brought in with class, quality, must be dedicated, motivated and hungry and willing to fight/battle/graft to do the club, team, fans justice every time they put the red shirt on in order to get club back to the top again

    • VoucherAndDiscountCodes says:

He brought 5 players in. You tell me how many would get into the top 6 teams in the prem.?

      2 at the very most.

Assaidi,Allen,Borini are poor quality players. AND that’s the problem.

People coming up with humungus lists of players in & players out are a joke.

DON’T spend ANY money on freebies, they never work.

DON’T spend money on 4mill players coz we’ll end up midtable.

BUY a world class centre half who dominates the box & wins everything in the air.

THAT’S what most of the money should be spent on

BRING BACK CARROLL. Gives us another dimension & great plan B (although not sure if BR know what plan B is)

      • Dan says:

Your right lad. Rodgers wasted over 30 million last summer

And he will prob do it again this summer.Ashley Williams for example

      • Denis D says:

What are you waffling about? We have not won the league title in 23 years and counting as we do not and have never had the same squad class, depth that the great Liverpools of old used to have. Whereas United have copied that philosophy, We used to have 2-3 class quality players competing for every position in the eighties.

And if first teamer was injured, ill or suspended the person who stepped in was as good or better than player out injured , ill or suspended and then that player made it his lifes work not to be put on bench again. The competition for places in 80’s at our club was fierce, every one was kept on their toes and playing to high quality standard.

That is not the case at all now for us, whereas no matter how much it kills me saying this United go from strength to strength. Look at Rooney, supposedly Englands best player. who now can’t get into team because of Wellbeck, yet when he gets chance he bangs some in. Good class, quality competition. Whereas united have 2/3 good class players competing for places, we have class players competing with average hard working players.

And the 11 players i mentioned would improve and strengthen the team dramatically, Vorm would bring health competition to reina, Williams would bring healthy competition with Skrtel, Pearce would compete with Agger, Cissokho would compete and cover Enrique. Capoue would compete and cover Lucas.

And the 6 attacking players i mentioned would bring experience mobility pace speed creativity goals and quality competition for places to side: These 6 players would cost less than what Chelsea paid for Hazard, Oscar and Mata.

1:CM: De Guzman(25) Of Villareal, class quality player we could pcik up for £3-£6M to compete with Allen, Gerrard and Henderson.

2: RW/ RWF: J Montero(23) Of Monarcas Morelia in mexico we could get for £3-£6M very pacey quick direct skillful right winger who plays for Ecuador national team. He would show Assaidi and Sterling , how to get at full backs one vs one every time no matter who the full back is Montero will get at them and cause them all sorts of problems.

3: LW/LWF: D Capel(25) Of Sporting Clube De Portugal/Sporting Lisbon we could get for £3-£6M, Capel is also pacey, quick direct left footed winger with energy and is awesome one vs one against any full back. He would show Downing week in week out how you get at full backs consistantly game by game

4: AM: C Eriksen(21) Of Ajax Or Thiago(22) Of Barcelona, one of these talented play makers should be brought to club at all costs for £10-£16M to compete with Coutinho and Shelvey for the AM position at club

5: LW /LWF: B Arfa(25) Of Newcastle should be brought to club in swap deal with A Carroll and £10M.

6:FD: C Benteke(22) Of A Villa should be brought to club for £14-£18M to compete with Sturridge and Suarez and offer a PLAN B to our attack

  • adam says:

The level of negativity surrounding the club is astonishing, and it all comes from the fans. I’m not sure what people expect. Instant miracles? A magical return to CL football or challenging for the title? We’ve seen the club go from manager to manager after Rafa was sacked and this is just the reality of where we are. Maybe Hodgson could have improved, certainly the team was much better in the second half of his season, hardly attributable to Daglilsh. But then Kenny had 18 months and plenty of money to spend and, in the end, our second half to the season was bottom-3. That’s not a figure of speech, we were literally in the bottom 3 if you keep a points tally for only the second half. We started well and went backwards. We were playing the worst football imaginable and it’s only selective memory that has people not seeing that clearly.

Now Rodgers comes in, spends some money (not buckets of it, but on what planet is the millions of dollars of investment from FSG not “enough”? we’re not owned by a russian billionaire or a mid-east consortium, so get over it. they’ve spent plenty) and although it’s been inconsistent there is no question we’re a better team. The league points tally is better, our form is better than it ever was under Kenny. Take the last 10 games and find me ANY 10 game period when Kenny produced as many wins. You can’t, because he didn’t. We’re on track to finish a good 10-15 points or more better than last season. Only by picking and choosing your results and getting stuck on the lack of cup success is that not clear progress and improvement. We didn’t make the Europa League on league merit, we made it on the back of a Carling Cup success, and while it’s nice to win trophies, NO ONE at the time was making a big deal of it. Not one fan.

FSG are not about to sack Rodgers, the main reason being that the win over Villa was not in the least bit lucky or undeserved and that kind of play WILL continue. Our problem is mostly that we don’t absorb pressure well, we can’t deal with other teams being on the top of their game and we leak goals. It’s a question of attitude and of course it’s frustrating but it’s absolutely something that can be fixed. And it IS getting better, just like our goals. We’ve banged in more goals this season than any other for some time, it’s no mean feat. We’re a team very much on the rise and FSG can see that. Perhaps if we slump to 6 consecutive losses it would be a problem, but even if that happens we’d still equal Kenny’s points total for last season. Don’t for a second think you can convince anyone that the league isn’t the benchmark, the ONLY standard by which a team should be judged. It’s been that way forever and it’s not going to change. Winning a second tier cup and losing a final means very little in the scheme of things. Rodgers will have to fall massively for this team to not show a massive improvement in our points total. That will be enough. Improve each season, one after the other, and eventually we’re challenging for first place. Until Rodgers has us going backwards then we owe him the time that FSG WILL afford him.

    • Duncan says:

Well said. Our form after Christmas has been very good, now that we have a reasonable squad depth. 3 or 4 shrewd signings and the continued progress of a lot of very good young prospects should see us qualify for the champions league next year.

All of this negativity was what got Rafa sacked. Anyone who helped bring that about should shut-up and think themselves lucky that the club are still in a position to talk about European competition.

Good comment Adam you want to watch that mind doesn’t go down to well in these parts does common sense – like a french kiss in a family reunion. Fooooooolzzzzz .

    Deluded idiots

    GREAT PLAN. GENIUS

Lets hire an inexperienced nobody ,whose highest achievement is finishing 12th in the league.

Lets give him a bit of money , but not enough to compete with the top clubs

Have patience (even though he is wasting our money)

    Have more patience

    Have more patience

    HEY PRESTO
The inexperienced loser turns our team into league winners and a great force for years to come

    Hooray !!!

    Fooooooolzzzzz !!!!!!!!

This is not a fairytale. It doesnt work like that .

Here is what WILL happen …we will give Rodgers a year or two…he will not get into top 4 … FSG will get fed up missing out on champion league money …they will sack him ….zzz. ….and then ?

    We start all over again

    • Duncan says:

Nah that won’t happen. You should be able to see that when you look at what he’s done with a thread bare squad. Top quality managers have to start somewhere you know, they aren’t just born with experience.

  • realistic says:

You need 2 things to compete at the top and win leagues

    1. A top manager who can attract top players

    2. A lot of investment

    WE HAVE NEITHER

    Rodgers will achieve nothing.

  • rab says:

i am not someone with rose tinted specs, more of a supporter for over 35 years who has seen success and then the steady decline since the 90’s, i know we had some success under the likes of Houllier, Benetez etc but who can forget Souness! (and i know we won the FA cup).
The issues that need to be sorted are huge. Poor strategic direction for years, chronic lack of investment/selling top players. Just imagine a team with Torres, Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard, Suarez, etc.
We cant compete financially so we need to cut our cloth for a while. However, the signs are there. Coutinho links brilliantly with Suarez, Sturridge looks a good buy, Suarez is one of the best in the world and at least our left and right backs are fairly solid.
Two good signings at the back, another striker and Alonso back from Real and we start to look good. Don’t forget last season we couldn’t score, this year we cant stop! Also, with the likes of Gerrard, Alonso, Lucas in midfield we will have enough experience to protect the back 4 and give us some consistency.
    We SHOULD have at least:-

drawn with the Mancs home and away
    beaten Arsenal away
    Man City at home
    Beaten Everton away

Let alone not performed so badly against Villa, Southampton etc.

A work in progress yes, one that is moving backwards, no.

    Keep the faith YNWA

“We were improving under kenny”……That has to be silliest most ignorant comment i have heard describing KKs second coming. His return was a disaster. He alienated seasoned pros, was a PR disaster (suarez and at PC’s), he threw multi pound deals at at best average players and to top it all off. Because he managed to get us to two cup finals a certain section of our fan base who i think belong to a long gone era blindly ignore our league form in the sencond half of his final season was relegation form. The team was mentally shattered when Rodgers took over and it took months to get them playing well again. Rodgers will show what hes about next season when the pressures on. Give the guy a break. Kenny isnt coming back the games changed. Money rules and always has done. Were not in the driving seat anymore so get used to it. If you cant accept it may take a long time working our back to the top. Then maybe you need a change of team. Because there is no guarantee even money can win the league anymore. Look at City.

    • Paddo says:

Not as big a disaster as this season .you are living in a dream world if you think this Rodgers dope will do anything except be average again next year and the year after

Maybe you should apply for the job then. Im not going to discuss this with someone in denial about the damage kk inflicted on the club. The form table doesnt lie. After what happened last season i think anything above where we finished last season should considered a success.

          • gideon says:

Haha, instead of insulting me. What do you propose the club do? Its high time people like yourself realise we are not competing anymore because we simply are not good enough. All the hot air and bluster you can muster wont change that. The table doesnt lie. Our performances since 08-09 have deserved our league position. Spurs, Chelsea, Utd and City all deserve their places above us. Chopping and changing managers every season because you dont like them, the players they buy or even the store they shop in wont help. If you want instant sucess maybe you should change team. Its going to be a long time before Liverpool can challenge for a title again. The footballing landscapes changed.

What a pile of s**t this article is. Where’s the patience?

Rodgers has done great implementing a new attractive attacking style of football. He’s been backed cautiously but solidly (Coutinho, Allen, Borini etc.) in the transfer window with players for the near future and brought through some players from academy.

I have no complaints about FSG. Be realistic – stadiums and building a great squad on a sound financial footing takes time.

    • Vikas Dhingra says:

Did you read thus article? It asks for Rodgers to be given more time.

No complaints with FSG? How long have we been waiting for the stadium? How many strikers did we have at the start of the season? How many players have left LFC and how few have come in to replace them? Our squad was light and remains thin, FSG are accountable.

    • Vikas Dhingra says:

True and more importantly, there is only one mourinho n one guardiola n they’re not coming here. BR’s our manager and I begrudgingly accept reality that is no top 4.

  • GENTLE-SOUL says:

What is our problem we so called LFC fans? Kenny was given about £140m+ nd wasted it on average players,Carroll bought for £35m,Downing-£20m,Henderson-£20m nd Only Suarez-£22.8m who r already scouted by Hodgson makes d grade nd worth the money paid for, which means Suarez wasn’t scouted by Kenny wit due respect!! He ruined every thing by himself if U could notice his stubborness by benching group of xperienced player for inexperience, the likes of Maxi,Bellamy on d bench while Downing nd Hendo who both r under par? Imagine if they(Bellars nd Maxi) who left because of embarrasment 4rm benching them for average players, those they new they r better than? r still among our players what do U think could av happen? Since we all knew dt inexperience is part of problem affecting us for Top4!!

    • Vikas Dhingra says:

Struggled to understand some of your points but KK personally scouted Suarez himself while working for club in his old role, before he became manager again. KK was v keen on Suarez. Not that everyone in football didn’t already know of Suarez already.

  • Ian says:

There will be no glory days return under Rodgers.

Out of his depth at a bug club

Hopefully fsg will take correct action and replace him

Patience does NOT ensure success. Far from it

    • gideon says:

Course it doesnt i completely agree. Benitez almost won the league immediately and utds success came as soon as they appointed Fergie lol.

      • Ian says:

You people are so stupid . Ferguson improved utd dramatically straight away

And I think Rafa won a cup in his first year ? As mourinho won the league as Mancini won a cup…the lust goes on

Check your facts before posting or u just look silly

        • Dexter says:

Ian – look before you leap, lmao about your statement “check your facts before posting or u just look silly” – when did you check your fact about Fergie improving utd dramatically straight away – the guy was almost sacked after poor results and was only saved by a late robins goal in the fa cup – check the date he won his first trophy and when he took over the reigns at utd – old whiskey nose did not improve utd dramatically straight away as you ascertain.

          Apology accepted.

          • Ian says:

            You really are dumb .

Ok I’ll explain it to you idiots. Who are obviously posting under different names

Ferguson took over the man ure team when they were at their lowest ebb. 21st in league .yes that us second bottom. At team in crisis and no confidence

That season he turned them around immediately , finishing 11th

Second season they took giant strides finishing 2nd

Now you can wiki it if you don’t believe me . U really are too dumb to be commenting on football

          • Dexter says:

.see I can post under different names too. Grow up u dope

          • Ian says:

Did you understand about the Ferguson thing .? Or would unlike me to explain again

            F%&&ing kids

        • Dexter says:

what an idiot – finishing 11th – turning it round? geez, does that mean if rodgers finishes 15th he’s turning it around?

You dont help your pathetic argument with poor grammar and spelling do you?

Get it into your idiotic head, whiskey nose was 1 game away from the sack. That is how quickly he didn’t turn it round. Wiki that for petes sake.

Mourinho and Mancini – why count them unless Rodgers was given 100M to add to his squad without losing any squad members. Give me a break and start comparing like for like will you…

And would the idiot who tried to post under my name give the dog a bone and **** off.

          • Duncan says:

Sad little troll. You had want to grow up kid. You just sound stupid when you rant like a little child.

You lost your little argument and now you are having a tantrum

            Grow up

          • Dexter says:

Ok .look I was wrong about the Fergie stats . I’m only 15 so I wasn’t around then.

            I apologize

        • gideon says:

By taking them to 11th 2nd mid table just outside the relegation zone and then 6th? Hardly what you’d call instant success is it? Even Mourinhos team was fairly settled when he took over from Ranieri. AVB hasnt had to make any drastic changes. The rock solid defence of the Invincibles under Wenger had been playing years under Graham. All teams need time. Want two perfect examples of this-Madrid and City.

        • gideon says:

Utd didnt win a league title for 5-6years under Fergie. And i dont post under different names. I found some of the comments outrageous which is why i couldnt sticking my ten pence worth in. If you cant handle having your beliefs challenged maybe forums are not for you. If enough people are challenging what you say maybe its you who could be wrong. Fergies success was not instant. He took them to 2nd in his 2nd season granted. But what followed almost got him the sack. He didnt have instant success. By his third season utd fans wanted him gone. Like most new managers he was inconsistent.

          • stevieG says:

Duh . If second place on your first l season isn’t instant success. Nothin is

Really. Get a clue pal. Try reading or something

  • Terry Mac says:

I agree with Rodgers being sacked. He is not a big club manager

FSG have backed him . 55 million. He wasted most of it on some of the worst players ever to wear the Liverpool shirt

We can’t give him any more money or more Swansea rejects and average players will come

Rodgers might do ok with a small club with lower standards.but not Liverpool

  • Poul says:

On sacking Kenny, I am undecided. I was in favor when he was appointed, thought that he should have been given more time but understand FSG’s reasoning.

On Rodgers, clearly he should be given time. Yes, he needs to be supported, but we also have to realize that we do not have unlimited funds and FSG is neither Roman nor in the Sheikh league when it comes to money. Moreover, I for one would be in favor of spending according to our means.

Finally, get over Rafa. He was an icon when he was here and will never be forgoten, but he is not what we need and his days are over in my view. If we were to look for another coach we should go for Laudrup.

  • BB says:

I don’t think Rodgers should have been given the job in the first place . This reminds me of Steve McLaren with England – a good coach but just too big a job for him to handle
There are plenty if top managers out there available , and we should give the job to the best man , and that is clearly not Rodgers
