Liverpool FCCELTA Vigo’s Iago Aspas has claimed that, despite receiving offers from other clubs, he knew where he was going as soon as Liverpool entered the fray, according to The Metro.

Aspas is set to finalise his move to Anfield sometime this week, now that Liverpool have agreed a fee of around £7.7 million.

However despite the seemingly imminent transaction, there were a host of other clubs who attempted to sabotage Liverpool’s advances for the youngster, with Tottenham Hotspur, Benfica and Valencia believed to be the primary admirers, but Aspas insists that his decision was made when he first knew of Liverpool’s interest.

He told Marca: “I did not hesitate when I heard that Liverpool wanted me, I’m quietly confident, but very excited about this new challenge. This is clearly a huge step forward for me.

“Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I could have moved to other teams and countries, but I quickly decided that I wanted to be in England.”

Aspas’ wage is rumoured to be around £45,000 per week at Liverpool and moves on a four year contract after having notched up an impressive 12 goals in 34 games for Celta Vigo last season.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.
