Liverpool targetSUNDERLAND goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is reported to be close to finalising a move to Liverpool according to The Independent.

The Belgian is due for a medical at Melwood next week, as well as to talk personal terms with Brendan Rodgers and Ian Ayre. The Black Cat’s goalkeeper kept 11 clean sheets last season, despite playing for a side who finished just 3 points above the relegation zone.

Mignolet is only 24-years-old, and is keen to prove himself at a top club ahead of the 2014 World Cup, should Belgium qualify for the tournament. The shot-stopper has fallen behind Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, who has impressed on loan with Atletico Madrid once again.

But Mignolet looks set to get the move he wants out of Sunderland, and could be a Liverpool player by next weekend.

With his arrival at Anfield moving closer, Pepe Reina’s future continues to be questioned, despite the Spaniard’s claims yesterday that his future lies with the Reds.

Reina has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, as a potential replacement for Victor Valdes, who has one year left on his current contract with the Catalan side.

The Spaniard said that he hopes to extend his stay beyond the three years left on his current contract, but admitted it would be hard to turn down a move to a bigger club.

“Keen to prove himself at a top club” – Sorry, with respect why is he going to Liverpool – mid table, no Europe ( and not likely to be achieved next season ). If it’s about exposure, Hell ! You couldn’t be more exposed than behind Sunderlands defence. This is about money pure and simple, with as usual the agent being the main winner. Similarly I guess to how you guys are feeling about Suarez, we feel played – but that’s football. Great shot stopper, poor distribution. Thanks for last season Mig, hope you don’t just warm Liverpools bench behind Reina – WHO IS A MUCH BETTER KEEPER TO BE FAIR

Still hope Reina stays and bring us to the top. He deserves it. Mignolet is good but Reina is still no.1.! But if he wants to leave he should cost more than Mignolet.
