Liverpool close in on Armenian superstar

LiverpoolACCORDING to various reports, Liverpool Football Club have intensified their efforts to land, three times Armenian Player of the Year, Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Ukrainian champions, Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Guardian has reported that Mkhitaryan remained high up on the club’s summer shopping list, with Brendan Rodgers willing to spend big and meet the reported £22m asking price.

Since then, several sources, including Armenian state radio, have reported that talks have been taking place between representatives of the two clubs over a fee. It has also been claimed that a deal is very close to being struck for a fee of £18m, and that the player is ready to join the Anfield club.

Sports journalist, Tariq Panja, tweeted earlier that Ian Ayre has cancelled his proposed trip to Brazil, due to begin on Monday, in order to attend to some urgent club business. With Ayre known to be the Reds leading negotiator, speculation has been mounting that the change of plans is in order to secure the midfielder’s signature.

Mkhitaryan scored 25 goals in 29 league games for Shakhtar last season, as well as finding the back of the net twice in eight Champions League games. He weighed in with ten assists in the league too, numbers which are excellent in anyone’s book. His, versatility is a huge asset too; primarily an attacking midfielder, Mkhitaryan can also play further back, and across the front-line, including as the main striker.

A full international at seventeen years old, Mkhitaryan has represented his country thirty nine times and scored eleven goals, including six in Armenia’s ultimately failed Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. Revered in his homeland, the midfielder was named Armenian Player of the Year in 2009, 2011 and 2012.

Liverpool have acted quickly in the transfer window thus far, with deals already agreed for Kolo Toure and Iago Aspas, and Luis Alberto and Tiago Ilori looking all but certain to join them at Anfield very soon.

The signing of Mkhitaryan, a much coveted talent, would lay down a real marker of intent as Brendan Rodgers prepares his squad for an assault on the top four this season.

The reports sound promising im very excited about this lad hope he joins up. I’m certainly over this Saurez crap I almost want him gone, on the media every 2nd day telling the club to respect him. We have shown respect and stood by him with this racism and biting incidents. It sucks more than anything that his family is suffering from this but it would never have happened if hadn’t he done any of it, he must realise that.
I really want Saurez to stay and i love the player but he has only got himself blame for all this.

    • Clyde says:

Whatever gave you the idea that Suarez’s family is suffering from his misdemeanors? One look at Mrs Suarez’s body reveasl that she simply adores being bitten.

  • Samuel Charles Evans says:

What is refreshing for Liverpool is at last, we are finally getting on with it in the transfer market and although we have seen nothing yet in terms of deals going through Toure apart then we seem to be wishing to make progress all bet it 5-6 years to late!

Lets make this clear we are still needing to push right on.

Selling players which is what we will be doing in order to reshape the team and use funds is all well and good but you have to bring in much better then you have.

I get very pissed of when i see the likes of shelvey, coates, assiadi, spearing, still here, and yet we seem to be thinking its ok to sell the likes of downing, skrtel who are far better to keep at the club then the above.

    Id like to sell-
carroll, ngoo, assaidi, spearing, shelvey, flanagan, pacheco, coates before we shift anybody!!!! that above is dead wood in my book,

We are simply not good enough to be thinking we can sell skrtel and downing when the team as a squad has next to no depth!!!!

only when we have signed better wingers and brought in another x 2 center backs can we then flog skrtel?

    Good business

  • Raam says:

If Ayre willing to cancel an important business trip to Brazil just to finalise the purchase of Mkhitaryan, might just become our third signing this summer.Mignolet and Alberto next with Liverpool asking Morata on top of cash from R.Madrid for Suarez. IF! If only all these deals goes through, next season will be very exciting.

  • Steven says:

    Happy with this one
