Liverpool DenmarkLIVERPOOL defender Daniel Agger is a target for French club Monaco, according to The Guardian.

The Danish defender has had another strong season at Anfield, and is being lined up by the free spending Ligue 1 side.

Backed by their Russian billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev, Monaco have already added over £100m worth of talent to Claudio Ranieri’s squad this summer in Radamel Falcao, João Moutinho and James Rodríguez.

And the club have identified Agger as a player who can further excel the side to great things over the next few years.

However, Liverpool are keen to keep the defender, and are set to reject any bids from the French side. Agger was linked with a move to Manchester City last summer, before he eventually signed a new four-year contract with the Reds.

After Jamie Carragher retired, and with the futures of Sebastian Coates and Martin Skrtel in doubt, Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to keep hold of the former Brondby defender, who has been the club’s key centre-back this season.

Agger scored 3 goals in his 35 league games for Liverpool this season, including the first in the Reds’ 6-0 victory away to Newcastle in April.

Rodgers will hope that he can have Agger at his disposal during the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Thailand, before returning to the UK to play Celtic in a friendly at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on Saturday, 10 August.
