Barcelona LFC targetLIVERPOOL target Victor Wanyama is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs, according to Sky Sports.

The Celtic midfielder is expected to be the subject of a £10million bid from Southampton and Premier League new-comers Cardiff City, who are both looking to strengthen their sides ahead of the new season.

Celtic signed Wanyama from Belgian signed Beerschot in 2011 for £900,000. And after two highly successful years at Celtic Park, interest is high in the Kenyan midfielder.

Wanyama, who is just 21-years-old, scored 6 goals for the SPL champions last season, despite being a defensive midfielder. The Kenyan also scored twice in the Champions League, including the opening goal in Celtic’s famous 2-1 victory over Barcelona.

The Kenyan only has one year left on his contract at Celtic Park, and the Glasgow side know they will have to sell him this summer in order to receive some money for the youngster.

Liverpool have expressed an interest in Wanyama, with Lucas the only real defensive midfielder currently at Anfield. The 21-year-old could provide cover for the back four, and solidify Liverpool’s defence next season.

Brendan Rodgers is eager to add to his squad this summer, and has been linked with moves for Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, Simon Mignolet and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

  • Daud Kamin (Malaysia) says:

sign and keep him….and also eriksen he is quality.

  • Peter says:

His contract is up at the end of the 14/15 season,by my calculations thats 2 years.

  • Brent Brache says:

Leave Mkhitaryan alone and sign only if Suarez leaves, as his ownership is an issue at the moment. Why not use the 23mill for him and sign Eriksen and Wanyama for a max combined fee of 25mill?

    • Johnny says:

Why sign players to save money. Mkhitaryan is twice the player Eriksen is, go to utube and watch Denmark at home to Armenia, only played a few weeks ago in the World Cup qualifiers . Armenia won 4 – 0 in Denmark. Henrikh was brilliant, ran the game. Eriksen was awful. You want quantity not quality, me i prefer quality. I really really hope we get Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a real quality player.

  • karlito says:

  • tex says:

Please tell me who this SPL giant is…is he a giant cos he is tall?….or is he a decent player…i hope its the latter!…ive never heared of him….i bet he would be sorted out playing in the sunday league here in liverpool…os the SPL is about par with that..why the stupid links to players who arnt up to it?…

    • chris b says:

his performances in the champions league where superb, FIFA named him one of the best young players last season, but then what would you know about the champs league as the big clubs in the EPL are the only ones who get to play on europes big stage.

    • Mike Fairlie says:

Aye Tex nae bother that is the same Scottish leagues that produced greats for you in your fantastic years, now that u r way of the top four u have the audacity to slag our league, Henderson 18 mill, Allen 15 mill and oh I forgot Downing 20 mill, don’t talk crap about Big Vic he is a lot lot better than the 3 I have mentioned, if u do get him please apologise for your ignorance. Did you see him v Barca home and away?

  • frae says:

Sign him up he is a real prospect foor the future

  • Steve says:

Conor Coady anyone, it would be good for him to be an understudy to Lucas and he could replace him if he gets injured. The U-20 tournament should show is how ready he is to fight for a first team place

  • Scotty says:

    Tex you are a idiot

  • KennyD says:

Signing Wanyama is no-brainer for LFC and a fee in region of £12m-£14m will secure this outstanding talent (we did pay £14m&£16m for Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson respectively) so Celtic will rightly feel that Wanyama is at least their equal (in transfer fee anyway).
Should Southampton sign him then I predict that they will transfer him to a top level EPL club in a couple of years for £20m plus.
Most LFC fans will not have seen him in the flesh but I have and this player would be the lynchpin of the team for years to come.
Is Brendan waiting to watch him in the Liverpool v Celtic friendly in Dublin in July?. Hope not as I fear he might be transferred by then with Inter Milan now expressing serious interest.
Go and sign him now Brendan. You will forever regret it if you don’t.

  • char says:

don’t mind tex he only watches football in his back yard.am akenyan I hope we sign him he is the best Kenya has ever produced. He is the reason Nigeria struggled to get draw in their home ground,& only beat us one nil second game the other day after he got injured .

  • Billy bhoy says:

Tex doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s only tv money that makes EPL what it is and there are a lot of dross- See any game over the years that involves Hull, Reading, Bolton, Blackburn, Birmingham. Wanyama wants to play in the CL so there is no point going to Liverpool . Arsenal would be much better for him. He is used to playing at that level with one pf the best suppprted teams in the world.

  • Raam says:

Wanyama is certainly an excellant addition to any team. His contribution to Celtic was top class. Strong and good game reading abilities. Cant depend on L.Lieva alone. J.Allen ok but Wanyama can bring stability. Will be great if Liverpool gets him. And Mkhitaryan deal should be completed asap as the problem is not price anymore.Liverpool in fact agreed for £ 23m. Its negotiation matter with more than one party. Shouldnt lose him to any EPL team as he can hurt us in future. Him, Wanyama and Papa will make Liverpool scary. Top four will be no problem.

  • Denis D says:

Wanyama is a good midfielder, but there are three defensive midfielders out there who are alot better than Wanyama who are in the Mascherano/ Sissoko Mould.

Who would compete directly with Lucas and offer him some good cover for that position

The three defensive midfielders are as follows:

    1: E Capoue(24) Of Toulouse for £7-£10M
    2: B Matuidi(26) Of PSG For £8-£12M
    3: M’Vila(22) Of Rubin Kazan for £10-£14M

One of those three defensive midfielders should be brought to th club this summer to compete with Lucas.
