Shift of focus is now needed

KopIT has been obvious so far this transfer window, that Liverpool FC mean business. It appears Brendan Rodgers and his team have learned from their mistakes of letting things linger last summer as they seem poised to act quick this summer.

Lessons well-learned, indeed, but their recent activity also reflects the time they’ve had to put their assets in place in order to scout talent. Fans should be well encouraged by the early activity and commitment of the management.

Liverpool have already brought in Kolo Toure and have concluded deals for Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas. Furthermore, the signing of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland was completed this week and rumours continue to abound surrounding the potential signings of Christian Atsu from Porto and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Depending on who you ask, certain of these players bring with them more upside than others but as with any unknown they also bring anticipation and excitement, something Liverpool have perhaps been lacking as of late. The club will certainly be sellers in the market too, which will increase the budget available to Brendan Rodgers this offseason.

There can be no doubting that at times this past campaign the offence certainly struggled to produce and apart from the arrival of Kolo Toure and Simon Mignolet, the aforementioned names all have a flair for the attacking. However, if Liverpool can realistically expect to secure a place back in the Champions League then the backend will need work too.

Perhaps because defenders do not catch the eye with their ball skills the same way attackers do, there has been less noise from Liverpool concerning what their back line will look like next season. Both Toby Alderweireld and Kyriakos Papadopoulos have seen their names linked to the Reds, in addition to Tiago Ilori but their arrivals do not seem as near as some of the attacking talent Liverpool have approached.

Recent reports suggest Schalke have rated Papadopoulos much higher than Liverpool value him so the attention has turned to Alderweireld, a player with plenty potential of his own. The twenty year-old Ilori is sure to have his best years ahead of him as well. However, with the retirement of Jamie Carragher and the potential departure of Martin Skrtel, the Reds risk running thin in the back line.

There is plenty of time left in this off-season but I, for one, would not prefer to see Liverpool glaze over their defensive areas of the pitch. There is certainly plenty that needs to be addressed and just as urgently as the attacking options if Liverpool can expect to mount a challenge for the top of the table.

a good deffence is essential to build a dominant team.as liverpool will be playing smooth attacking football ,they need to make sure their defence is rock solid.if unfortunately they fail to sign any of their young targets ,they should at least sign another experienced premier league defender .
