Stewart Downing LiverpoolLIVERPOOL FC’s Stewart Downing is in line to join fellow big money flop Andy Carroll at West Ham United reports Sky Sports News.

The Hammers have had a bid of £5million pounds accepted for the former England winger and they are hoping to wrap up the deal within the next few days.

Downing is expected to complete a medical in London on Monday to also personal terms before finalising the deal.

Brendan Rodgers had told Stewart Downing that he was free to leave Liverpool FC way back in December 2012 but no move materialised at that time.

Now though, it appears that all parties are happy to allow the move to happen and Downing will be leaving Merseyside.

Although the fee of £5million is just a quarter of the £20million pounds Liverpool paid Aston Villa for the 29yr old, it is his reported £80k per week wages that both Brendan Rodgers and FSG were keen to get off the wage bill, similar to the way former high-earners, Andy Carroll and Joe Cole were allowed to leave Anfield.

Another of Dalglish and Comolli’s poorly considered transfer targets is cast aside. Waste of £20m? Yes. Deserved of £80k a week? No. Was his Liverpool career a failure? His first season was a disaster but with Rodgers’ foot up his arse he started making an impact during his second season. Still, 7 goals in 91 games is a poor return for the initial investment. Can’t say I’m sad to see him go but Sterling and Ibe will be more productive and are on less weekly wages.

No replacement to date. I think liverpool will not be challenging for a top tour ace with such an inexperience team.

We should stop buying England players for now, because most of them are average players

Pool one the cup under dalglish and nothing under rogers. Pool fans celebrating losing an international at a £15m loss are so transparent and desperate to try and make it look like Pool are doing well. No replacement in sight and a young offender to save the day. There’s talent there but not to play week in week out for a team thinking of top 4 lol!

Definitely a waste of money for Liverpool FC . Hope he does better at West Ham.
