LIVERPOOL manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed how an extremely unlucky situation in the gym has left defender Daniel Agger in a race against time in order to be able to turn out for the Reds against Southampton, according to The Telegraph.
The Dane was absent from the Liverpool side who faced Swansea in their 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium due to an accident with a dumbbell in the gym.
The 28 year old suffered a side injury whilst attempting to stop the dumbbell falling on his foot, though saving his foot came at a price, that price being a sharp pain in his side. Agger being omitted from the team marked the debut of new £18 million signing, Mamadou Sakho, together with Martin Skrtel who faced the Welsh side.
Rodgers, speaking of Agger’s injury and the extent of it, said:
“It’s too early to say whether or not he will be fit for the weekend.
“He just had a real freak incident in the gym just before he came out for training. He over-stretched when he was trying to prevent a dumb bell from falling on his foot.
“He has just yanked his side, so we are waiting to see if that settles down over the next couple of days. But if it doesn’t we have got ample replacements now and that’s why we brought in extra players to cover us for any injuries.”

Courtinho as seen against Swansea links up the play brilliantly and when he was taken out by a deliberate foul’ Liverpool’s passing game deteriorated, however the first half performance was the best I’ve seen from any premiership side this season, in my modest opinion.
The match was a very fascinating one but there are questions to be asked now and the question is, does the team built round Phillipe Coutinho? It was as if Swansea read the game very well and looked @ a way to end LFC fluidity in the match and they realised that the best way is to puncture the fluidity and the key to it was Coutinho. Aspas was just a bad substitution cos he never helped @ all in the match. Our attacking threat reduced and that tells on our midfielders and defenders including the goalkeeper. In my own opinion, I would have brought in Sterling/Alberti for Coutinho and allowed Moses/Alberto to come in to play that creative midfield role that was left by Coutinho instead of Aspas. Just hope Coutinho comes back fit for our next match or the Rodgers learns fast from the match against Swansea.
Coutinho is our main man and will missed him after he got injured i n the match against swansea
