LIVERPOOL defender Andre Wisdom believes that the recently enhanced competition to compete in Liverpool’s back four can make him a better – though he conceded to the Daily Post he may need to hone his skills further by going on loan.
Reds’ manager Brendan Rodgers has increased his defensive ranks this summer, shelling out £25 million in order to bring Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori, from Paris Saint-Germain and Sporting Lisbon respectively, to Anfield.
Along with the two new arrivals, Wisdom also faces competition from Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure and Martin Kelly for his favoured position at the heart of the defence.
However, Wisdom is undeterred by the competition, instead claiming that it will help him improve and further his own career.
“Mamadou and Tiago are further players who are good to look at and learn from, it will create an even more competitive environment for myself and the other lads in the squad but you shouldn’t expect it to be easy to come to Liverpool and just walk straight into the team.
“There should be real competition for places at Liverpool Football Club.”
Wisdom was expecting to depart Anfield on loan on transfer deadline day, however, a deal didn’t materialise and Wisdom went on to gain only his second start since January in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Swansea.
“It was looking almost certain that I would be going out on loan to try to play regular games, but then Glen Johnson got injured in the game against Manchester United and the manager didn’t want to let me go out as I was need here.
“Maybe something will come of the loan option later in the season because you always want to be playing games on a regular basis.”

If rodgers has lost faith in wisdom (and it looks like he has) then he needs to go on loan for the rest of the season. Rodgers seems obsessed with shoehorning sakho in to the back four no matter what as evidenced in the southampton defeat. Give wisdom some game time somewhere else
wisdom is a pity that BR has lose hope on young lads… I felt with you too.
The only way a player that will improve on his game is to get more game time. Sadly Wisdom may not get that many chance under BR.Now that Liverpool is knocked out of Capital One Cup his chances are getting even lesser.
Another terrific prospect ruined by trainee kid Brenda. Sad, & shame on you Brenda. You cant believe in the players so why should we believe in you?
@FSG OUT… Just plain daft! He’s not ready, so any loan would be great. Now we have Kelly back he will be sent out in January. He has lots of promise, and BR knows that. Sounds like you know just about nowt! YNWA
Yeah and Kelly has been ripping up trees under Brenda now hasnt he. You need to get down to Specsavers mate.
