Beware of worshipping false idols

suarez shirtALL fans, not just Liverpool fans, learn your lesson; show you value your club above the players.

The age of celebrity manifests itself in all walks of life from politicians who want to be TV/cyber TV stars to sportsman who are bigger than their teams.

We need to learn the Torres and Suarez lesson, Mascherano did the same thing but he was never so worshiped. How LFC continue to deal with Suarez will send out a message for all further dealings like the trailblazer of modern day club power, Mr D Levy, of Tottenham.

Newcastle United’s Yohan Cabaye refused to play, went on strike and Mr Pardew, prior to the transfer window closing, said he may have still been sold – not the right message Mr Pardew! Let him sit in the reserves to make an example; not sell him to make the wrong example…others will follow suit at Newcastle.

We forgot: No player is bigger than the club. After Torres stabbed us in the back Louis came in as an upgrade but he too has turned.

Let’s not let Sturridge turn into another Torres or Suarez. He doesn’t need to be worshipped.

Harry Redknapp described football fans as shallow and would sing Saddam Hussain’s name if he banged in a few goals. I can’t argue with that. I’ve stood by a ‘cannibal’ all year saying he’s misunderstood/picked on and slipped, teeth first while screaming on a forearm!

There has been some desperate writing regarding Suarez this summer, my favourite is a BBC headline: ‘Rodgers refuses to discuss Suarez’. How is that a newsworthy headline?!!

I’d have been happy to see Suarez sold abroad for £35million with a percentage follow on sale clause, but not to a Premiership side.

I’d be happy for him to sit, rot, reflect and learn humility like City taught Tevez. LFC need to be big and show they have balls. In the long term selling to Arsenal for £55million will count for nothing. £55million and Walcott…that’s interesting.

How many games did Suarez miss? If he’d not nibbled on the opposition we may have had Champions League this season! He therefore, could have done more. He was a part if the squad and failed to get Champions League.

I would like the age of the player worshiping to come to an end immediately. I would like all the large posters of Suarez removed. He has to earn the respect he has lost back.

We need to be careful to not give other players big heads and give credit to the manager. One thing is for certain; our relationship with Suarez will never be the same. I will not hold any player in such high esteem again, Torres, Suarez…once bitten, twice bitten and time to get shy!

An armchair fan who loves the stadium experience but likes the bread and butter of replays, moronic pundits, a drink in a pub atmosphere. LFC is my religion.

Common sense is missing from football but the situation is always complicated so I endeavour to give opinion and encourage discussion and thought about LFC.

I get that Daniel Levy has spent a lot of money, and is very serious about making Spurs a top top side- be as yet he has done nothing. Calling him a trailblazer is ridiculous. So far, he is a poor man’s Roman Abramovich. By all means- give him the plaudits he deserves- when he wins something.

And more importantly, both he and Liverpool should not be running their clubs based on following the others lead. That is a recipe for disaster, and only a fool would consider it.

I am GLAD Suarez is staying at Liverpool. It would have been one of the first times I had seen a clubs star player being sold because of what the rivals think of him. What he did was no worse than Cantona attacking a fan, and Man U would not have considered selling him for a second, and quite rightly.

What Harry Redknapp said was right. A few goals buys a lot of 2nd chances.

But overall this article is complete *. Its like an amalgam of all the crap reactionary red top BS we have seen all summer. I really hope you didn’t pay the author of this crap. I mean- “Don’t give players big heads.” You are aware that football is a confidence game?? Name 1 decent footballer who isn’t a complete egomaniac. You can’t. Cos they all are.

  • red33 says:

Beware of worshiping ??? The main thing is know when to let go like a man, nothing in life is forever, nobody is bigger than the club.

  • Jojo says:

“If he’d not nibbled on the opposition we may have had Champions League this season!” Huh? We finished 12 points off of fourth and only dropped 2 points out of our last 12 to end the season after the Suarez bite incident. I know blogs are for ranting but don’t put a whole season’s failing on one incident or player at the expense of math.

    • Vikas Dhingra says:

Fair point. The sentiment is simply Suarez has to take some responsibility for the failing to get fourth. When Suarez let the team down and got his ban he didn’t know how well we’d perform without him or how close we’d be to fourth at the end.

  • ken says:

the players come play and leave thats the nature of the beast we will still love suarez when he bangs the goals in thats just the way it is if you dont like it pick another sport

  • Neil says:

Suarez can suck a *!…I worship the local players and there’s nothing wrong with that they die for the shirt!….Carra and Gerrard are worthy, Suarez isn’t so *him!

  • ogbenta Austin says:

suarez has biten d fingers dat feed him. We love him dat is all bt he should know dat ‘he that betrays wil always walk alone’ up kops

  • Zinco says:

I love the club end of ! Love the players who give the club real success also. My thoughts on Suarez are same as the boards. Where would Liverpool have been without his goals last season . I forgive . Now he will repay by firing us into the champs league . Move on . One day Suarez will be replaced by another hero . That’s why I still love Barnes . That’s why I love Gerrard. I can’t wait for the next hero . Mignolet has been great . No? Coutinho? Cherish the players as they give us cherished memories otherwise there is no point !

  • talent says:

I get your point mate, but I will still support Suarez because he is one of us,we must forgive and move on and we must support all our players in the field of play…I bet you will sing his name too when he start scoring goals…he will take us back to the top 4 if not to the first sport…this is going to be a great season for us with the likes of Suarez,Sturridge,Gerrard,Coutinho,Mignolet,Johnson etc…YNWA

  • EZEKIEL KPAREVFA says:

Suarez has made a mistake & I think all human beings all not perfect. As a good Liverpool fan, I fervently pardon Suarez. 40 goals this season my brother!

  • Joe Benu says:

You’re very much on point with this piece. I agree totally.

  • godwin says:

spot on! Thumbs up for the article…but yes,if saddan hussains was our player and scoring sum goals then i wouldn’t realy mind, suarez needs a few goal 2 lure me to him again..dats the beauty of the game..spot on! Luvly article

  • CHUKWUEMEKA says:

i av stood by a “cannibal” all year. at this point my intrest in reading this drivel minus the sadam hussain stuff evaporated. “if he had not “nibbled” on the opposition “we may have had champions league this year” at this point i had no doubt that you must be the “most confused drivel writting columnist” on this site. how can a cannibal be nibbling on the same fore arm he sank into teeth first? and where did you learn that it was his (suarez) ban that tipped the champions league scale against us? if you dont know what to write or want write about suarez nd our cl hopes, get your facts right. we were totally out of the contest before the chelsea game nd cannibals dont nibble, they devour.

  • pino pino says:

ezekiel u are a hypocrite already beginning to worship him again?

  • mr.liverpool says:

hahahahahah worshipping false idol or praising an employee???? a very employee wants to receive well done from his employer(s) & customer when he does well. That was what suarez & other players do get, but when they looses it, the goodwill has to be built back again., which he wil certainly do.
    great piece anyway.
