We’re going to win the league

LFC AnfieldMAYBE I’m a dreamer, but I’m not…we’re going to win the league.

Let’s get carried away, three wins and top of the table in an international break, Man United beaten…LFC fans must enjoy this. Optimism isn’t a sin.

The league’s 6th longest serving manager has started brilliantly. Mr Rodgers is building a reputation and he’s done an excellent job so far, but it is extremely ‘early days’. We need to at least contend for the Premiership and win a cup this season to really get the ball rolling.

We’ve not had anything like a surprise winner in the Premiership since Blackburn but they too bought success, much like Chelsea. Unlike Chelsea they quickly sold it too.  If Liverpool were to win this year we would be the biggest surprise winners since…ever?

Liverpool don’t have a manager with big a reputation in the game (no major playing career like Blanc or Laudrup) and no Champions League to offer. We have not found it easy to sign sought after players. I would be happy for there to be no big signings in the next transfer window, almost no one the Reds sign for over £15million works out. It’s like buying a Rolls Royce when you live on my road…it will either not be a very good car or someone else will have it!

FSG got their fingers burnt with the King Kenny and Damian Comolli era. They spent too much too often but now they are not spending and I’m happier. Paying the prices we were for mediocre players was embarrassing! The mercenaries we can attract may have the talent but will they have the heart, hunger or commitment? Doubt it. In a season or two their fat wages and lack of output would be like wear a cow around your neck (use up resources and leave a poor atmosphere).

Mr Rodgers has shown he can coach; he can get the best of the players he has and deserves better tools to get the job done. In my opinion he may not be the best man to spend the money but he’s one of the best at getting the lads to play.

Liverpool FC’s defence has been excellent and deserves full credit for not letting in a league goal. Mr Rodgers has made attempts to strengthen it. If they additions are indeed improvements then we’re in a very good position. Last season’s top scorer is coming back in two games so let’s be positive we are Liverpool!

In my opinion it was an error to allow Fabio Borini to go out on loan but he does need games. I just felt LFC needed him as an option in case of injuries. Martin Skrtel was the obvious candidate to go and will be again in January. I just wish Mr Henry would learn to sell and buy the way Mr Levy of Spurs has been demonstrating for so many years. I get the impression Mr Henry has taken notes and is improving.

There is a distinct lack of goals scored at present. All these 1-0 scorelines remind me of a very successful team of old. If Liverpool are to be the modern day version of ‘boring boring Arsenal’ I’ll take that. I’ll take 10 years of that if we win the league or contend every year! The years of not being serious contenders have left scars that only prolonged success will heal! No matter how we play to achieve that success.

We as a team are a little weak on the wings but maybe Jordan Ibe can be the surprise success Stirling was for part of last season. Maybe Victor Moses will find the form that he has often suggested he’s capable.

Liverpool FC are top of league and have beaten Man United already, with Swansea (A) next on the horizon followed by Southampton (H)  and Sunderland (A). Three winnable games and if we do win them all I am sure a few more people will openly be saying ‘We are Liverpool, we are top of the table and we’re going to win it!”.

Let’s enjoy it and for once say to others ‘where are you in the league?’!

I don’t mind how we do it, but being called the Champions next season will be worth it.

Maybe I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one…am I?

An armchair fan who loves the stadium experience but likes the bread and butter of replays, moronic pundits, a drink in a pub atmosphere. LFC is my religion.

Common sense is missing from football but the situation is always complicated so I endeavour to give opinion and encourage discussion and thought about LFC.
