Carlisle UnitedACCORDING to BBC SportCarlisle United manager Graham Kavanagh is keen on making a deal with Liverpool, for some of the Reds’ youngsters to train with his side.

Liverpool duo, Craig Roddan and Jakub Sokolik, recently turned out for the Cumbrians in a behind-closed-doors game against Rangers, and Kavanagh is keen to maintain the agreement between the two clubs.

Speaking to BBC Radio Cumbria, he said:

“We’re hoping for a situation where if there are players on the periphery of their under-21s, then we could have a little bit of a look at them.”

The former Rebublic of Ireland midfielder has made one addition to the squad since he took Greg Abbot’s place as manager, the loan signing of Blackpool forward Nathan Eccleston – who was formerly a Liverpool Academy graduate.

Kavanagh said: “Like with Craig and Jakub, where Liverpool are undecided on them, we really give ourselves a platform going forward, the lads would already know about us and we would have had a first-hand glance at them so it really puts us ahead of the game if these players become available.

“Next summer we definitely want to freshen up our youth team. We need some players in behind the first-team that we can then develop and improve so there’s a little more focus on long-term planning.”

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.
