BhgmhC7CQAAeXh2So, if you thought that their £40,000,001 bid for Luis Suarez last summer wasn’t laughable enough, Arsenal now appear to be taking things to a whole new level as a number of news outlets, including the Metro and the Mirror, report that Arsenal have drawn up a short-list of potential replacements for Arsene Wenger and Liverpool’s very own Brendan Rodgers is near the top.

Following a highly successful season so far, Rodgers name has been mentioned in relation to the Barcelona job in recent weeks but FSG are looking to get the Reds boss signed up long-term over the coming months, with Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, ‘demanding’ that the clubs’ owners move fast to secure his signature.

However, after a disastrous performance in Wenger’s 1000th game in charge of Arsenal on Saturday morning again the Chelsea, the club are beginning to look at potential replacements for the Frenchman, who appears to be getting by on the fumes of the good will he has built up over the years with both the fans and the press.

After seeing his side obliterated by a younger, hungrier and more tactically flexible manager a few weeks ago, Wenger appears to be losing ground to the next generation and Arsenal seem to be looking for an update on their current model.

We’ll let you be the judge of these rumours, but given the rare commodities (Gerrard, Sturridge and Suarez) that Rodgers has to work with at Anfield, not to mention the backing of the board, increasing faith of the fans and the lure of bringing Liverpool back from the brink of mediocrity to their most realistic title challenge in years it’s hard to see Brendan taking these rumours very seriously at all.

If the rumours persist, expect John Henry to continue to muse what ‘they’re smoking’ over at the Emirates.

You’re writing an article based on rumours from the Metro and the Mirror? Someone’s clearly smoking something, and considering that person gives credence to the Metro and the Mirror, the stuff that person is smoking is probably very very low grade.

I don’t know what’s more amusing, the fact that this writer got worked up over a rumor from gossip peddlers like Metro and the Mirror or the idea that Arsenal would want Rodgers.

    Pull the other one.
