Marocs Rojo in action for Argentina

With the potential signing of Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno hitting a stumbling block due to the two clubs not able to agree a transfer fee. I thought I would look at other probable suitors in that role that could fit in to the Liverpool way of playing. Argentina’s Marcos Rojo should be Liverpool’s choice.

Rojo who plays for Sporting Lisbon is a very solid defender, who can play as a left back or centre half and has earned rave reviews following a string of impressive performances for Leonardo Jardim’s side last season.

The 24-year-old impressed for Argentina against Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Cup in Brazil on Sunday, even completing a spectacular Rabona clearance and with Brendan Rodgers keen to add more steel to his defence for the upcoming season, his tough style would be perfect. He has made 24 international appearances in his career to date.

At 6?1 tall, he has a physical presence often lacking in full-backs, and his imposing frame often gives him an immediate psychological edge over his opponent. He’s also very cultured on the ball.

The former Spartak Moscow star has been terrific for Sporting all season, ensuring his side have the second best defensive record in Portugal’s Primeira Liga. Just 20 league goals conceded in 30 matches is hugely impressive.

Rojo vs Flanagan

Jon Flangan has had opportunities to show his qualities during 2013/14 however the signing of a quality left-back would allow Jon Flanagan to either act as cover on both sides of defence, or establish himself as the first choice in his natural role on the right.

The table below shows the comparison between Flanagan, Rojo last season, both in terms of attacking threat and defensive expertise.

2013/14 Appearances Goals Assists Goals Conceded
Flanagan 25 1 1 35 (in 25 games)
Rojo 24 4 0 15 (in 24 games)

Defensively, meanwhile, Rojo comes out on top. He has been a mainstay of the Sporting defence all season and it’s clear that he would add a presence to the Reds’ defence which was lacking at times last campaign.

I feel that Marcos Rojo would be a terrific acquisition for the team as the Argentine offers consistency and versatility which is what the squad needs at this present time. Sporting have made clear they would be prepared to listen to offers this summer, and Liverpool believe a player the Portuguese club paid Spartak Moscow just £3.5m for two years ago could be available for around £10m.

If I was Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool I would try and push through a deal during the World Cup.

Liverpool should buy Marcos Rojo to play in the centre beside Skrtel and buy Ricardo rodriguez for leftback.

  • Ifesinachi says:

Sell Jose Enrique and get Marcos Rojo and Ricardo Rodrigez for stable, steady and strong defence.

Everything starts next week. All the predictions and gossips will mean nothing when transfer mayhem officially opens. Just hope LFC gets at least 60% of the targeted players. B.Rodgers and Ayre simply can’t afford to fail as LFC will be challenging on 4 fronts. Have to conclude all buying quickly and start full team training early with all players bar those still playing WC. We hope LFC have learned their lessons from past transfer windows.

ok.. sell suarez to barca :

Get tello and pedro and collect 50 million from suarez

after that pay 25 million for sanchez

balance from that must get Marcos rojo( rb – 12m ) , ochoa ( gk-10m ) , De Vrij (cb – 15m) and call back Illori

    – we have a busy attacker + sterling + cautinho + hendo + allen

we pair sturridge and sanchez at front with support from sterling , cautinho and hendo
    wow.. great movement…

tello will play if sterling off and another dimension.
forget Lallana because better we pay for sanchez.
pedro are silent killer and he will go for minute 60.

we sell suarez , reina, assaidi, borini and agger , we can buy for another player and we will go for UCL
