How Will All 12 Liverpool Players Do At the World Cup?

|

Luis Suarez1. Luis Suarez – When Liverpool’s Luis Suarez was asked to be one of only 5 players (with one of them being the USA’s very own Clint Dempsey) to star on the covers of Sports Illustrated, you knew he’d really made his mark in world football. Because if even a nation that has largely tried to ignore the world’s favourite sport for so many years has now noticed that Suarez is one of this seasons’ star players then he must be doing something right.

As good as Ronaldo and Messi are, neither have ever really done it for their country. On the other hand, few would argue that Luis almost single-handedly dragged Uruguay to their Copa America win in 2011 – something neither of the world’s best players can ever claim to have done.

Since then, a number of Uruguay’s other players have emerged as top stars in the European game, so Suarez is no longer alone on the world stage, with the likes of Godin, Pereira, Cavani and Ramirez emerging as big stars or hitting their peak in the years leading to this years World Cup.

Regardless of this though, if Uruguay are to have a good tournament, then Suarez will be at the very heart of it and, if fit, there is no reason why Suarez can’t take his team to the World Cup final in the way Maradona did in 1986 and, in doing so, usurp both Ronaldo and Messi as the world’s best player.
