Pepe Reina – For Pepe Reina, like Iker Casillas, this could be his last World Cup but sadly for Pepe he probably won’t get a game, unless Spain somehow guarantee qualification in their first two games and can afford to rest some senior players. Either that, or Casillas gets injured, and even then it is more likely that Spain will opt to go with De Gea after an – apparently – good season for that club up the motorway.
Over the last decade Pepe Reina has been one of the most consistently excellent stoppers in the world but he had the misfortune to be born in an era when Spain we blessed with top ‘keepers and has only managed 31 caps for his country. It is unlikely Reina will get the chance to make an impact on this World Cup and will likely be reduced to the role of cheerleader.
