Reports in the past 24 hours suggest that Liverpool are about to beat the Gunners to the signing of Atletico Madrid youngster, Javier Manquillo. Arsenal were believed to hold a long-time interest in the Spanish U-20 international but the young right-back appears to prefer the prospect of a move to Anfield.

This will, of course, go down well with Reds fans after missing out on the signing of Sanchez, who choose London over Liverpool.

The Spanish youngster is a top prospect in Spain but has yet to really make his big breakthrough into the Atletico squad and any move is likely to be with a view to taking a closer look at the right-back in action over the next season or two. He challenge both Jon Flanagan and Glen Johnson for what will be a highly-contested position in the side.

With just 7 appearances for Atletico last season, the Spanish youth international does not bring with him a great deal of experience but will provide exciting back-up for the current pair of right-backs Brendan Rodgers has at his disposal.

It seems a little strange however, to chase a 20 year old with no prior experience in English football when Liverpool’s own Andre Wisdom has just made his loan move to West Brom and is more than capable of filling the right-back position and, in fact, did for most of last season at Derby County. But then, Wisdom will get many more games at West Brom in the coming season than he’d be likely to get at Liverpool, so perhaps playing the long-game will benefit Liverpool much more.

How do you think Manquillo will settle in the Liverpool squad? Is this the kind of move Liverpool should be making this summer?

Manquillo is a great catch for LFC. Now, LFC must move quickly and get the most important players we need. A center back and a left back. Should stop wasting time and get things done early. The targets are already in place,so complete the dealings soon and bring them in. So that full team trainings can be started early and the players are well prepared when the season starts .

Why liverpool management and excutive officers are tired of wingers, and defence and midfields while we dont have stikers,, liverpool is going to be the worst club in the premiership this summer because of poor signings. Livrpool club have enough finance and yet they not bring one out standing striker

Am a liverpool fan for at least 18 years and every season am being demoralised that always the club is hanging behind coz of poor administration in signings,it is possible that may move other club as a fan

Liverpool need to move Flanaghan over to his natural right side and he and Manquillo take care of the right side of defence. Johnson and his high wages should be released. Lovren and an exerted effort to revamp the Moreno deal needs to happen for the left side. Hopefully I put Lovren on the correct side.
