Reports last night indicated that Brendan Rodgers may well have been listening to some of Reds fan’s wishes for a top-class backup (or should that be challenger to) Simon Mignolet.
According to rumours in Italy, Liverpool have been taking a much closer look at Argentinian goalkeeper, Sergio Romero. The Sampdoria stopper spent last season on loan at Monaco but player barely 10 games and has returned to his current club for the forseeable future.
Apparently, the ‘keeper was available to Monaco for under £4 million and if Liverpool could get the Argentine for around the same price then Romero would give Mignolet some serious competition between the stick and give Brendan Rodgers some top quality back-up for the Belgian ‘keeper.
The question here is whether Liverpool would be too keen on a goalkeeper that neither Monaco or Sampdoria are particularly keen on having as even a second-choice but his performance for his international side during the World Cup was relatively impressive and at this stage he would surely be an improvement on Brad Jones.
Is this the kind of option Brendan Rodgers should be going for, or should a better quality goalkeeper be on the shopping list? Surely the club can’t be unaware of the availability of Victor Valdes?
