2. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is a classic poacher’s striker. Wherever he goes, he tends to score goals.

Prolific in his early years for Heerenveen and Ajax, the Dutchman only managed 15 goals in two years for Real Madrid and AC Milan, perhaps raising concerns over his ability and nerve to be a top striker for the very biggest clubs. However, he has rekindled his scoring touch for German side FC Schalke, with 172 goals in four years.

Liverpool are desperate for another striker given the collapse of the Loic Remy deal, leaving just Sturridge and Lambert as the only senior forwards with Borini’s impending move to Sunderland. If the fee is around £10m, then the Reds should look elsewhere, but whilst £5m may be extravagant for a near 32 year old who has never played in the Premier League, he has plenty of Champions League experience and will not play every game.

Therefore he will remain fresh throughout the season and could become a super sub for Liverpool, providing those extra goals needed for a title challenge.
