According to a number of sources today, Chelsea’s Petr Cech will be available in the summer and the goalkeeper’s agent has urged the Reds to make a move for the player.
With Liverpool struggling for any sort of leadership at the back, the man between the sticks has been identified as the biggest issue with neither Simon Mignolet or Brad Jones particularly impressing this season and, at 32, Cech would still represent a long term investment and bring with him a huge amount of experience.
His agent, Viktor the Kolar said “It’s unlikely Petr will leave Chelsea in the January transfer window. The club and coach want to keep him to help win the title. I think Arsenal should have made an offer to him. I think Petr would be considering it.
“Liverpool need to strengthen their position in goal and they know Petr will be available in the summer.”
For a reported fee of £6 million the Reds could land one of the most consistent goalkeepers in Europe, and a player many believed was only challenged by Pepe Reina at his peak for the top keeper in the Premier League.
With Liverpool likely to be on the lookout for a keeper in January, would a short-term option be the best move, with a view to signing Cech in the summer or should Rodgers look to solve a problematic area as soon as possible in January? Let us know in the comments.
