It’s all been fairly quiet on the transfer front in the past week but after Brendan Rodgers took a trip to Italy, following the Premier League game last Tuesday, there has been speculation over why the Liverpool manager was making the trip almost immediately after the match against Spurs.
It now transpires that he was scouting a group of players with a view to a transfer ‘war chest’ busting move for Miralem Pjanic and Radja Nainggolan – both from Roma – and Keita Diao of Lazio. All three would reportedly run up fees of £25 million each and there is no doubt that the three would give the Red’s midfield and attack some serious depth.
However, considering the source of the rumours are coming from both the Daily Express and the Daily Star, it may be wise to take the stories lightly.
That said, the three players are all top quality and would give Brendan Rodgers some great options ahead of next season, when Liverpool will need to be challenging for greater honours.
In particular, the signing of Miralem Pjanic from Roma would certainly go some way to replacing many of the attributes that Steven Gerrard has given the Reds over the years. The midfielder has started to hit the heights that many expected him to following moving to Serie A and he is likely to be in great demand over the summer.
Whether any of the moves actually materialize is another matter, of course, but it’s almost certain that Liverpool will be looking to make some big moves in the summer. Watch this space.
I’m sick and tired of all these rumours from our crap media who’d have us believe we have a Chity or Chelski sized war chest, what a load of bollox.
We are linked with at least 10 different players every day.
