Brendan Rodgers lost a lot of fan support following the awful defeat on Sunday

The day after the night before..

My back is still suffering after the long coach journey. Cerebral palsy and coaches aren’t a good combination but, hey ho. I’m writing this while eating a Krispy Kreme doughnut (thank God for small mercies). I have played the game and the season over in my head and I needed to get it all off my chest.

Aston Villa fully deserved to book their place in the final and a European place. We as a team didn’t want it enough and it proved to me that massive changes need to be made in the summer. You may think I’m being harsh but Brendan has had plenty of time to deliver a trophy in his three year tenure but at the final hurdle, so-to-speak, he has bottled it completely.

We reached two semi finals and when you need to be tactically astute to put one over your opposing manager to reach the summit sadly he hasn’t got the winning mentality which is a necessity when managing LFC.

Kenny got the sack even after winning a trophy. Rafa or even Diego Simone would be someone who I would love to see at LFC. Simeone’s fiery South American temperament would certainly kick some egoistical players into shape but also his coaching and tactics would be a positive step for us.

Too many players are skating by at the moment and not putting enough in - a manager like Simeone would straighten them out

At least we could defend under Rafa; he is a genius when it comes to outwitting opposing teams and managers. He’s won trophies with every team he has managed. Like I have said numerous times: today football is a results business and Rodgers hasn’t delivered, end of!

Teams used to fear us now we fear them and that makes me sad. Brendan saying that the team on Sunday were overwhelmed by the occasion angers me greatly as we had players out on that pitch with experience. It was like watching the life being sucked out of them.

(As a side note: where is Steve Peters when you need him?)

Brendan is so naive tactically, which was obvious due to the four or five system changes during the second half. I was scratching my head at times thinking ‘what’s going on?’

Our midfield lacked cohesion, pace and we were totally overrun, something which has been a pattern under Brendan since he has managed the side. The writing has been on the wall for months that something is not right with team club and the manager’s methods. We were lucky against Southampton and Swansea, even to get replays against Bolton and Blackburn, and were totally out-thought when we played Man Utd and Arsenal.

A manager like Klopp would offer Liverpool a lot more than Brendan Rodgers

We don’t have a team of quality who can perform consistently but players who ‘can be the difference’ in a few years. But the sad reality is we cannot wait for them to hit their potential, we simply need quality for the here and now, not for 3-5 years time when the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea will strengthen and challenge year on year.

Doesn’t it seem like history is repeating itself the season after finishing second, after vast amounts of money are spent only for it go up in smoke and end in tears?

Even Rodgers’ post match interview comments seem to be imitating his final few months as Reading boss.

Sunday was the realisation that this summer is a huge one for LFC; it will ultimately define us in what way the club and team will move forward for the 2015/2016 season.

What are your thoughts on Sunday’s performance and season as a whole? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

I am a lifelong Liverpool supporter from Huyton Liverpool just like Stevie G and go all over the world supporting my team I go the games in my wheelchair as I suffer from Cerebral Palsy however that does not stop me having a ball cheering on the World’s Best Team.
I write a weekly column talking about various topics whether that is tactical analysis of matches, opinion pieces, looking through the archives of previous matches, former players and current articles on Brendan and the first team.
It is great being part of the first class writing team at Live4liverpool.com and bucking the trend in being the first woman to write for the site.

The earlier we sack rodgers, the better we progress

Good to see you back writing articles Katie. I couldn’t agree more with your comments and my choice would absolutely be Rafa.

Getting rid of Rodgers would be a step backwards. His done just enough for me to earn him at least one more season for getting us in contention for top 4 without a striker, having to play players some other committee bought and sometimes endured just plain bad luck. Mark my words, come end of next season many people will just laugh at the fact that they wanted to get rid of BR. {Next season will be ours – YES, I SAID IT :). }.

i think everyone is too quick to call for managers heads these days. Look at the youth within the squad now, Brendan has built a team that will only get better, any team that loses a world class striker will struggle the season after. Brendan guided us to an unbeaten run of thirteen games after an abysmal start to the campaign, he’s certainly good enough and should be given time. Imagine if every time a reporter wrote a couple of bad articles there were calls for there heads. This reporter here may well be stacking shelves in tesco’s now instead of writing this dross!!!

Some want to give Rodgers the benefit of the doubt, and give him another season. The problem is that Klopp and Benitez will probably not be available after this summer. Three years without a cup or title is not good enough for a team with the history of Liverpool!

I Think Its Better, A Good Decision Should Be Taken Now Or Leave It. Why One Second?, At Least The Different Is Clear. He Is Undrer Grade. No Second Thaught In Game, No Plan B After Failing Plan A, No Tactics, He Deosnt Even How To Approach Big Games. Abeg The Earlia De Betta. Either Benitez Or…………

BR should be sacked and a better coach like Benitez,Klopp,Simone etc should manage the club. Not a coach that have not won a major trouph since his coaching career. BR is a fool, after wasting so much funds on inexperince players, without a single trouph. Please he should be sacked.

If you ask brendan and his disciples…the 13 game unbeaten is proof, brendan knows. But the evidence for the man being out of his depth, is overwhelming. How about the 8 games winless streak prior to the great run? How about 4 points from 1 point from the last 3 most important games of the season?

Let’s talk about ludogorez and Basel…oh, wait , Rogers is learning.

We knew he was inexperienced but the problem is. The man believes he knows it all. This was one promotion too far.

Rogers deserves another PL SEASON. He has proven that, But, that must be at another PL Club. At liverpool, he failed . Another season for him would be a dissaster .

  • Norton says:

I totally agree, Rodgers seems to prefer players who are technically good, but weak on strength, presence and guts, the experienced strong willed characters the club had are all but gone, leaving only young players that rodgers can bully, whereas senior players with influence he shipped out as soon as possible, or mistreated, telling them one thing to their face, but soon changing his tune publicly or by phone,
He wasn’t FSG’s first choice when they appointed him, surely with the teams poor performances he must not be now, they have already tried to replace him with the likes of AVB, (thank god that didn’t happen), now there are top level managers available they must act, my shortlist, Klopp, Rafa and simeone, and they should not give in until one of them have agreed to take the job!

You cannot replace BR with Klop, what has Klop won.granted, he won the German Bundsliga Twice but look where Dotmund.i would prefer Rafar who veru austute tactcaly or choose Simeon due to calisma and tactal awereness.
