Whilst Liverpool are going through a sticky patch in their quest for a top four finish next season, it was fantastic to see so many old faces return to Anfield in the All-Star Charity Match.

Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher must wish the Reds still had some of these players back in their primes and playing for Liverpool. Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina, Luis Garcia, the list goes on.

It got me reminiscing a little, which was inevitable in a game such as that, about some of the world-class talent Liverpool fans have been lucky enough to witness just in this past 15 years.

Whilst the Premier League title continues to elude the Reds for now, under Rafael Benitez and Gerard Houllier in particular the trophies were never really lacking. At that point Liverpool had truly world-class players, who have been in short supply in recent years.

Nevertheless, there is no doubt that Liverpool could put together a team from this millennium that could compete with any side from any time, and here is a starting XI of quality players who were firm favourites during their time at Anfield. I will be employing a 3-5-2 formation, which fits in with our present style of play, even if nearly all the players selected come from our past.
