It’s a transfer that has been mooted ever since he scored his first goal for Aston Villa, but Benteke to Liverpool seems like it may actually transpire this summer and Liverpool legend, John Barnes, is certainly championing that cause.
Speaking to talkSport’s Alan Brazil, Barnes said: “Christian Benteke would be a great signing for Liverpool.
“Daniel Sturridge is a good player but he’s not going to be fit until September or October.
“What Liverpool have lacked is a presence up front. They have good approach play, but have been unable to get the ball in the box.
“With Benteke, as well as playing the fluent football Liverpool can, they would also have the option of being a bit more direct. I would be excited about that if he comes.”
The big Villa striker has been in fine form since his return from a lengthy injury spell, with most of his goals for the current season coming in the last month or so. After a slow start to the season, Benteke looks like to finish on at least 15 goals in just over 30 games, continuing his average at Villa of 1 goal every 2 games.
At present, it looks like Chelsea are attempting to steal a march on Liverpool but Benteke is believed to be very keen to join the Reds and the prospect of being able to team up with his international team-mates Simon Mignolet and the incoming Divock Origi may prove to be a big sway for the big man.

Don’t understand the constant Benteke to Liverpool link. Benteke is ‘believed to be very keen’ to join?? Unless he comes out an says that I wouldn’t believe it. If a top 4 club comes calling then I can see Benteke wanting a move. But to Liverpool? They don’t exactly offer champions league do they
