Five More Defenders Linked With Anfield Summer Switch

Alvaro Arbeloa (Real Madrid)

But first, just one more full-back, and one who could be very useful indeed should he arrive at Anfield this summer. Or should I say return?

It’s still incredible that Liverpool let this guy go to Real Madrid for just over £3m (also Daniel Agger last season) where, whilst not becoming the best full-back in the world, he has been consistently solid in his six years in Spain.

Now at 32, Arbeloa is no longer wanted at Real and is set to leave the club, probably on a free. The Spanish international would represent excellent squad depth in a position where the Reds are light in numbers.

Glen Johnson, Javier Manquillo and Jose Enrique could all leave this summer while Jon Flanagan is out for several months.

He could provide competition for Alberto Moreno at left-back, and at right-back for Andre Wisdom and another potential signing for that side.

Importantly though, he would add experience, both from his time at Real Madrid and Liverpool, to a relatively young dressing room lacking leaders.

On a one year deal, with perhaps an automatic extension should he do well – there is little for Liverpool to lose by bringing Arbeloa back.
