Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)

The top target on this list, it goes without saying that Liverpool would find it difficult to bring Lacazette to Anfield. Yet if Rodgers is looking to splash out over £30m on a striker, then Lacazette should certainly come into consideration.

The player of the year in France, Lacazette is one of the world’s most sought-after strikers. The 24 year old French international scored 31 goals in 38 games this season, and is no flash in the pan either, with 22 goals in 2013/14.

He has helped drive Lyon back into the Champions League, and they are understandably desperate to keep him, with the fee required now rumoured to be nearer £40m.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have all been heavily linked with a move, while Lyon have apparently offered Lacazette a huge new deal to stay at the club.

Having declared that he wants to play Champions League football next season, Liverpool would appear to be outsiders, and it would take determination, finance and persuasion not yet seen by Rodgers or the transfer committee with previous high-profile targets to bring in Lacazette.

He would certainly fit in at Liverpool, with his pace, dribbling and finishing his greatest assets.

On the realms of realism, a big money move for Lacazette would emphasise Liverpool’s ambition and presence in the transfer market, which a club of its size should be doing.

It would unquestionably be a coup and would add a world-class player to the position in need of the highest quality.

Liverpool would definitely be in contention for a top four spot should Lacazette arrive at Anfield.
