The 30 year old will – reportedly – sign a new deal next week

With all the recent rumours and talk around the comings and goings at Anfield surrounding new players, the handful of players currently at the club that are nearing the ends of contracts have been somewhat overlooked. Particularly that of veteran centre back, Martin Skrtel who was – once again – the club’s top defensive player last season.

However, the ECHO reported last night that Skrtel is expected to sign a new deal next week as the club have seemingly relented from the previous ridiculous stance of only offering the 30 year old a ‘pay as you play’ contract.

Skrtel indicated his disgust with the offer at the time, and the outpouring of concern and backing from the fans seems to have made a difference as it seems the big Slovak will sign a new three year deal next week.

That news comes hand in hand with reports that Brendan Rodgers favourite, Joe Allen, is also due to sign a new deal, having just 2 years to run on his current contract with the club.

The Welshman has played 95 games over the past three seasons at the club, scoring just four goals, and the debate surrounding his best role (if, indeed, he does have one at all) at the club continues to rumble on, with many feeling his preference ahead of the likes of Lucas and Can, amongst others, is very much unwarranted.

However, the current Liverpool boss seems to see something in Allen and he is also likely to be offered a new deal, along with Skrtel.

i wonder why rodgers is still hold on with allen what kind of a coach is he. allen is not kind of a player that liverpool expect to depend as a midfielder and he is not a player for champions league let him go and let lucas and can fill the gap not allen. rodges has to stop favourin allen becoz of their history at swansea and wales as well rodgers let allen go for the sack of the team and us fans.
