Jordan says a Reds win can be a big statement of intent for the coming season

With narrow, hard fought wins over Stoke on the opening day and Bournemouth last week, Liverpool head into the club’s third match of the season with a chance of making it three out of three and sitting firmly second in the table on goal difference.

It would be a heady position for the Reds, one that hasn’t been held since the glorious days of 2013-14 when the title seemed a reality. But, perhaps more importantly, it would put Liverpool five points ahead of Chelsea and six in front of Arsenal.

Of course, it’s only early days but it would definitely make a huge statement that the team have come a long way since last season and could see a new found belief created that the club can challenge for honours this season.

And Reds youngster Jordan Ibe believes beating Arsenal tonight would be a huge statement for him and his team mates to make.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, he said: “Playing against a top-four team is quite a test for us but hopefully we can get get ourselves in that position come the end of the season.

“It’s always a great battle between Arsenal and Liverpool so it should be a good contest and hopefully we can do well.

“For us, [a win can] make a statement to everyone that we can be a Champions League team and win medals.

“If we beat Arsenal it’ll give all the new players and the players that were already here the confidence to kick on.

“They’ve already lost a game so it’s crucial for them to get another win.

“We’re on a winning streak right now, we’ve just won two games, so hopefully we can take that confidence to the Emirates and get the three points.”

Rodgers’ team were far from convincing in those two wins however, and a lot of work has hopefully been undergone in the week building up to the game to ensure the Reds start the game on fire and build on that.

Are you confident of a win tonight and what changes should Rodgers make to the side that beat Bournemouth? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
