After making his full debut for the senior Germany side last week, Emre Can was again in action for his country, laying on an assist in a 3-2 win over Scotland last night.

The assist for his country came at a good time, after Can had recently given an interview with Liverpoolfc.com about his wishes to become more of an influence in attack for Liverpool.

He said: “I want to do more in attack and I know I can improve in that area of my game. I want to do much more going forward in terms of scoring goals and providing assists.

“I’m trying to bring that into my game and I’m working on it in training.

“I always try to do my best and put in the running and help out in defence. I’m determined to work hard in defence and in attack.”

Can scored just the one goal last season and failed to even get close to an assist, let alone a goal for much of the season and it’s a part of his game that needs to see much improvement.

However, to give Can the benefit of the doubt, he did play for much of last season at centre back and has not played at centre midfield much this season. But can has impressed for the U21s and now the national team and may get a chance to hold down a spot in central midfield.

With that in mind, Can has now set his sights on some targets for the season. He continued: “I haven’t got a particular target of scoring five or 10 goals.

“I take one game at a time.

“Perhaps I do have one target of scoring more goals than last season and last year I only scored one goal.

“Hopefully it will be more this season.”
