While his was perhaps the least heralded of all the transfer moves Liverpool made during the summer, Danny Ings has been one of the more positive aspects of Liverpool’s season so far.

Brief cameos in the first few games showed a player willing to work hard and bide his time to make an impression, whilst his substitute appearance against Norwich at half time on Sunday showed Ings’ taking it to a whole new level, his first goal aside.

And if getting an ovation from the Anfield faithful wasn’t testament enough to his performance, he has now impressed Liverpool legend John Aldridge as well.

Writing in his piece for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge said: “Liverpool’s goalscorer played like a 1980s throwback, running, chasing, harrying and closing down Norwich defenders throughout. He reminded me of Rushie and myself in the 1980s, refusing to give defenders a minute’s peace.

“He showed a wonderful attitude which was both refreshing and infectious. He came on at half-time and brought the crowd to life and lifted the players around him, too. And he’s got quality too. His movement was excellent, he took his goal very well and did everything that could have been asked of him.”

Ings was one of few positives for the Reds, and his well-taken goal only added to an impressive 45 minutes. Of course, the return of Daniel Sturridge was a huge boost for Liverpool too, meaning the team now have a wealth of options to choose from up front.

Aldo continued: “When you look at the squad now there is reason for optimism in the coming weeks. We can choose from Christian Benteke, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings up front, two of whom weren’t with us last season and one who was injured for most of the campaign.

“Last season we had four strikers who scored eight league goals between them. With that trio of strikers available to us this time the season will get better as it goes on.”

With the games now coming thick and fast over the next few months, with the Reds involved in Premier League, Europa League and League Cup action, Ings, Sturridge and Benteke will all get plenty of game time and have a chance to show what they can do.

Now Liverpool have all four strikers fit, who would you line up with going forward? Let us know your first choice striker/striker partnership in the comments below.
