Enrique saw a last minute move to West Brom collapse

Are you glad that’s over? We certainly are! Although transfer rumours are a steady source of entertainment and news, the transfer window can be an exhausting time at a big club with, literally, dozens of rumours every day for months.

But Liverpool ended in much better shape than in recent windows, with no panic buys and only a handful of players leaving in the last 24 hours.

Of course, last night saw the departure of Fabio Borini to Sunderland for around £7 million, potentially rising to £10 million. Meanwhile eternal striking prospect, Samed Yesil, made a loan move to FC Luzern and new signing Taiwo Awoniyi signed and was loaned out before his feet had even touched the ground.

Onto deadline day proper, and the Reds loaned out a now fully fit Tiago Ilori to Aston Villa for 12 months, earning £1 million in the process and allowing Villa the option to buy at the end of the loan deal. Sources report varying amounts for this ‘option to buy’ of between £6-10 million.

Elsewhere if, like us, you thought we’d signed Brazilian teenager Allan Rodrigues de Souza you’d be mistaken because he ‘officially’ completed his move today, with his deal sheet finally being accepted by the Premier League.

And, finally, there was a slightly comical (and tragic) ending to the window for Jose Enrique, who seemed destined for a fairly impressive £7 million move to West Brom before that fell through at the last minute. What followed? Well.. as you can imagine he was hounded off social media for what was perceived as him preferring to stick around at Anfield in his current situation. Make of that what you will..

As reported in the Liverpool Echo, the Reds ended the current transfer window with a ‘net spend’ (because we’re all accountants these days) of £25 million. Doesn’t sound too impressive when you put it like that but you have to take into consideration the sizeable fee received from Man City for Sterling.

All in all, it’s been a relatively positive window for Liverpool (on paper) but we need to see vast improvements at Old Trafford in 11 days time.

The window has closed but by tomorrow we’ll be getting bombarded with rumours of players we are going to sign in January. It never ends.
