Carlo Ancelotti has today been linked with a move to Anfield

First it was former Borussia Dortmund manager, Jurgen Klopp, getting the ‘Liverpool have been in contact’ treatment and today it’s the turn of former Real Madrid and AC Milan manager, Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian coach, like Klopp, has taken some time out of football after leaving Real at the end of last season, and is seen by many as a viable alternative to the German but is some way behind on fan’s wishlists.

However, claims this morning indicated that Liverpool had sounded out Carlo Ancelotti about the possibility of becoming the next Liverpool manager.

The Italian has a stellar record in European football, winning league titles in several countries, numerous cups and three Champions Leagues.

But now the club have reportedly denied (sorry, vehemently denied!) rumours that Ancelotti, or any other manager, has been approached to replace Rodgers, with the likes of James Pearce, Phil McNulty and Tony Barrett all reporting that the club are ‘adamant’ they haven’t contacted any manager. The claims are that FSG are still backing Rodgers. No doubt much to the chagrin of many fans.

Of course, it was all far-fetched enough as it was, but the club are hardly unlikely to admit they’ve contacted another manager so until something is resolved either way, we’ll just wait and see. In the meantime, Rodgers faces another ‘must win’ game against Carlisle tonight. Anything less than a comfortable victory and the shouts to move the manager out of Anfield may become that much louder.
