Player ratings: LIVERPOOL 3-2 Aston Villa

The big man wasn't at his best on Saturday afternoon

The big man was solid on Saturday

GK/Defence

Simon Mignolet – Had little to do other than retrieve the ball from his net twice. Would be harsh to attribute any blame to him for Gestede’s brace. Rating – 5

Nathaniel Clyne – As completely unflappable as always, in a defensive sense but did not offer his team mates too much support at the opposite end. Rating – 6

Mamadou Sakho – A solid showing from Sakho who continues to raise questions about the reasons for his prolonged absences under Brendan Rodgers. Rating – 6.5

Martin Skrtel – Like his defensive partner Skrtel was solid enough but, as a unit, the defense continues to struggle to not concede. Rating – 6

Emre Can – A poor display from Can who can’t seem to retain any sort of form from one game to the next. Responsible for one of the opposition’s goals, at least. Rating – 5

Alberto Moreno – Not as convincing as Clyne as a defender but offers so much more in attack. Was always available to assist his team mates and provides a great deal of support on the wing. Rating – 6.5

Good to have the win and STU. looking to getting back to form, more like a Liverpool performance against Villa. Still need two very good central defenders or we will continue to struggle, Sakho can’t seem to get off the ground for high balls. Always thought Moreno was more suited to a more central roll and could replace Lucas or Allen.

Rodgers is blaming Jamie Redknapp for trying to push him out. I’ve heard what Jamie just said about any manager will be under pressure until they deliver the league , but he is wrong ! Give the fans some credit, we don’t expect to win the league right now , but we expect to see the team perform better . We have seen a lot of money spent and Rodgers persist with players like lovren and mignonet as if to prove us wrong and then trying to play players out of position as though he wants to prove he is some genius . We just want to see Liverpool in the top 4 for now on a consistent basis and hope for a nice cup here and there. We are looking like a mid table team at the moment and have been for a while , that’s why it’s so obvious a new manager is needed
