Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann believes Jurgen Klopp will be perfect for LFC

Continuing our giddy ‘Klopp to LFC’ news today, and former Liverpool star Didi Hamann believes that Jurgen Klopp would be the perfect fit for Liverpool and the club’s fans.

The Champions League winning midfielder was a popular man at Anfield, bringing some much needed German class to the Reds’ midfield and you’d hope he would know a thing or two about the German manager (but then, in the last few days don’t we all?).

Speaking to talkSport Didi said: “He is the ideal candidate for the job. He is the one I would pick.

“The expectations and the mood couldn’t be any further down than it is at the moment at Anfield so it is a great time to come.

“I don’t think with his appointment Liverpool will become title contenders overnight, but you need to have a lift from somewhere and I think he can do this.

“Liverpool is a working-class club, a working-class town, and you need somebody that the fans take to. It is very important at a club like Liverpool that the fans take to the manager.

“For a lot of fans, Klopp would be the first choice and it looks like he is coming. And I think he can create that spark, that emotion, and give people hope again, which I think has been lost in the last 12 months.”

As Didi points out, Liverpool fans are in dire need of somebody they can relate to and connect with, something that was rarely ever the case with Brendan Rodgers. And the former Dortmund manager’s background and infectious personality will automatically get a response from the fans.

The mood at Anfield since last season has been peculiarly downbeat, with fans frustrated and feeling little connection with a team of nervous young players and a manager increasingly at odds.

But, as Hamann states, Klopp can get the team and fans going again. And, while many believe we’re expecting to win the league straight away, that simply isn’t the case. Liverpool fans just want some identity back and a team they can get behind. That’s the starting point.

And if Didi is right about Klopp, then we should see an immediate change on the pitch – and in the stands – for the better.
