Klaverkamp believes Klopp is perfect for LFC
German journalist, Sascha Klaverkamp, of Dortmund based paper Ruhr Nachrichten has spoken to the Liverpool Echo today about Liverpool’s soon-to-be new manager Jurgen Klopp and he believes that the former Dortmund manager is a ‘perfect fit’ for Liverpool.
The German manager is due to be unveiled as the new manager of LFC tomorrow at 10am and the overwhelming majority of Reds are absolutely overjoyed at the signing, with many rating it as the biggest since Rafa Benitez joined the club in 2004.
Speaking to the Echo, Klaverkamp said: “It’s a really good choice. The situation with Liverpool now is very similar to the situation when he first took over at Dortmund in 2008.
“Both clubs have very passionate and enthusiastic fans who create special atmospheres. Football is like a religion in Liverpool and it’s the same in Dortmund.
“Klopp was the perfect fit for Dortmund and it will be the same at Liverpool. The fans will love him for his passion and for the attacking, high-speed football his team plays.
“The fans will love his behaviour on the touchline – the way he jumps in the air when there is a shot on goal.”
The comparisons between Liverpool and Dortmund have been obvious for many years, with a mutual respect between both sets of fans, and renditions of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ never far away from either ground. And it became very clear to Liverpool fans last season, during a pre-season friendly at Anfield, how perfect Klopp would be for LFC.
However, many so-called journalists and rival fans have felt it highly unlikely that a manager of Klopp’s quality would be interested in managing a side on the slide, with only history to cling to (their words, not ours!) when there are the new breed of ‘big clubs’ around, with money to spare and growing fan-bases, such as Chelsea and Manchester City.
But Klaverkamp claims that these sorts of clubs have never interested Klopp. He continued: “Klopp loves a real football atmosphere. He didn’t like what we call in Germany ‘new rich’ clubs – the likes of Manchester City and Wolfsburg who have a lot of money but no great history.”
And despite a final season slump at Dortmund, the German journalist believes that Liverpool have got the perfect man to turn the club’s fortunes around. He went on: “If I was a Liverpool fan I’d be very happy to have Klopp come in.
“His power, his passion and his coaching ability will get them playing.
“Liverpool is a club with great fans but with a team who have not been performing well enough on the field.
“Klopp is perfect for putting that right. He can motivate and he can develop players to push the team forward. I think Liverpool fans will love him.”
