GK/Defence
Simon Mignolet – Mignolet will certainly have to work harder than he did tonight. He had a bit to do in the first half of the first half, and picking the ball out of his net so early on won’t have been a great feeling. But just having so little to do for a change will have been a strange feeling for the Liverpool ‘keeper. Rating – 6
Nathaniel Clyne – His usual solid self at the back but he was highly impressive getting forward. Constantly exploiting space down the opposition left, Clyne’s ability to overlap was highly impressive. A few more assists and the odd goal are the next step, though. Rating – 6.5
Martin Skrtel – A slight improvement on his performance on Saturday but he again looked at odds with a fast-paced opposition. Again, as on Saturday, he came into his own game more after the away side lost Duzmin. Rating – 6
Mamadou Sakho – The most impressive man in Liverpool’s defence on a night when, bizarrely, there was little for them to do after Kazan were down to ten men. After that point, we saw the best of Sakho bringing the ball out of defence, with a couple of heady forward runs thrown in. Rating – 7
Alberto Moreno – Not quite the barn-storming display of Saturday but Moreno looked solid again. Getting the attacking side of his game down was never an issue but the improvement in his defence game has been increasingly welcome. Rating – 6.5
